Programmes Manager Job Vacancy: Life and Peace Institute (LPI)

The Life & Peace Institute (LPI) is an international and ecumenical centre that supports and promotes non-violent approaches to conflict transformation through a combination of research and action that entails the strengthening of existing local capacities and enhancing preconditions for building peace.

Location: Kenya - Nairobi

LPI is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Programmes Manager to be responsible for the oversight of the two Nairobi programmes, namely the Somalia and Co-operation with Regional Partners Programmes.

Education, knowledge and skills:
  • Post-graduate degree in international relations, political science, sociology or other relevant field - or equivalent experience;
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in Programme Management in the development, relief or peacebuilding fields;
  • Very strong management skills, including planning, coordination, supervision and reporting;
  • Expertise in Project Cycle Management and Results-Based Management;
  • Knowledge and experience in applying Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning tools;
  • Ability to build relationships, liaise and cooperate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders;
  • Experience in capacity-building, especially ability to mentor and coach colleagues and staff of partners;
  • Understanding of budgetary control and resource allocation procedures;
  • Ability to provide technical oversight of implementation of the two programmes in liaison with the Resident Representative (RR);
  • Ability to provide financial oversight on programmes' budgets including tracking budgets and expenses, vis-a-vis planning and contracts in co-ordination with the finance department;
  • Ability to monitor, evaluate the programmes and identify potential problems, informing the RR and formulating plans for alternative actions as necessary;
  • Ability to perform co-ordination and representative duties with partners and stakeholders;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English language
