National Museums of Kenya (NMK) Job Vacancies in Kenya

The National Museums of Kenya (NMK) (www.museums.or.ke) is a complex multi-disciplinary state corporation with diverse resources and activities with objectives of enhancing knowledge, appreciation, respect and sustainable utilization of the natural and cultural heritage resources for the benefit of Kenya and the world.

We are seeking to recruit result oriented individuals to fill the following positions;

Title: Chief Internal Auditor
(Ref: NMK/HR/CIA 09/01)

Reporting to the Audit Committee of the Board, the Chief Internal Auditor will be entrusted with planning, monitoring and implementation of the organization risk management strategy which includes;
  • Overseeing continuous improvement of NMK internal controls, risk management and governance process.
  • Prepare and operationilise an annual audit plan.
  • Provide both the Board and management with regular assessment and opinion on effectiveness of NMK risk management and control systems.
  • Follow up on implementation of audit recommendations.
  • Supervise and manage the audit team and ensure optimal level of resources in order to realize set targets.
Requirements for appointment
  • A university degree in a relevant field plus full professional qualifications such as CPA, ACCA.
  • Be a member of ICPAK-K.
  • Have served in a senior Audit position in the Public Service or a large private sector. organization for a period of not less than five (5) years.
  • Excellent communication skills.
Title: Senior Marketing Officer
(Ref: NMK/HR/SMO 09/02)

Reporting to the Marketing and Public Relations Manager, the position holder will be responsible for design, planning and implementation of the organization’s marketing strategy including;
  • Planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating marketing programs and proposals.
  • Writing and editing final copies for promotional and information materials.
  • Coordinating promotional activities and special marketing events.
  • Conducting marketing research.
  • Leading and guiding junior staff working under him/her.
Requirements for Appointment
  • A business related bachelor’s degree plus post graduate diploma in sales and marketing .
  • Over 3 years experience in a busy Marketing and PR office.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and ability to work with design packages.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be a member of relevant professional bodies.
Title: ICT Manager
(Ref: NMK/HR/ICTM 09/03

Reporting to the Director, Development and Corporate Affairs, the position holder will be responsible for design, planning and implementation of the organization’s ICT strategy including;
  • Formulating and enforcing ICT technical and operating standards.
  • Spearhead development and maintenance of ICT infrastructure.
  • Assessing Information Technology needs and other operational requirements.
  • Create and maintain a system of storing and managing critical information in secure databases.
Requirements for Appointment
  • A relevant ICT related degree (A Masters degree in a relevant field will be an added advantage).
  • Possession of ICT professional qualification such as Network Associate, CISCO, and Data base Associate etc.
  • Over Seven (7) years relevant experience in ICT field three of which must be at a senior level.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work with minimal or no supervision.
Title: Multi Media/Audio Visual Coordinator
(Ref: NMK/HR/MMC 09/04)

Reporting to the Director, Development and Corporate Affairs, the position holder will be responsible for design, planning and implementation of the organization’s multimedia strategy including;
  • Coordination of the development and dissemination of multi media programs in all NMK facilities
  • Liaise with Legal office to ensure protection of Copyrights of all NMK multi media productions
  • Establish general standards and codes for conservation of all NMK multi media collections
  • Planning media use in exhibitions in all NMK museums
  • Coordination of acquisition and maintenance of multi-media equipment
Requirements for Appointment
  • A degree in Journalism, Communication, Audio Visual/ICT Electronics Engineering or a related field
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Mass Communication/Journalism or equivalent relevant qualifications
  • Over ten (10) years experience in managing media production, three (3) of which must be at a senior level
  • Ability to conceptualize and develop media programs
  • Be conversant with use of audio visual equipment
Title: Auditorium Coordinator
(Ref: NMK/HWAM 09/05)

Reporting to the Marketing and Public Relations Manager, the position holder will be responsible for marketing, hire and general maintenance of Louis Leaky Auditorium including;
  • Designing and implementing marketing plan and strategy for the auditorium
  • Hiring the auditorium to interested parties while ensuring that all contractual obligations are met
  • Establish and supervise operational systems for theater area including safety procedures.
  • Monitor and take corrective action on maintenance of the building and all equipment therein
Requirements for Appointment
  • A bachelor’s degree in a business related field
  • Over 3 years experience in Marketing and Public Relations
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrable ability to build long-term business relationships
Title: Principal Engineering Technologist
(Ref: NMK/HR/PET 09/06)

Reporting to the Chief of Research, the incumbent will be responsible for the acquisition, installation, repairs and maintenance of laboratory equipment and plants including;
  • Formulating and enforcing laboratory equipment operating standards
  • Ensuring proper maintenance of all laboratory and related equipment
  • Perform minor repairs on broken down equipment
  • Training users on equipment operations and simple routine maintenance procedures
  • Operate the Institute’s flow cytometer including daily Calibrations & quality assurance, guiding the users on basic operations.
Requirements for Appointment
  • A bachelors degree in Biomedical engineering or a Higher National Diploma in a relevant field
  • Three years experience in maintaining laboratory or hospital equipment preferably in a research set-up
  • Knowledgeable of all aspects of equipment management and maintenance
  • Have knowledge and experience in the operation and maintenance of flow cytometers
Title: Senior Virologist
(Ref: NMK/HR/09/07)

Reporting to the Chief of Research, the incumbent will be responsible for providing scientific leadership to the Virology program by developing grant proposals for supporting research in the Virology lab and supervising staff in the programme.

Specific duties includes;
  • Review of virology grant proposals for scientific merit before eventual approval and submission for funding
  • Develop annual work-plans for the program and oversee their implementation
  • Participate in day-to-day scientific activities including project implementation, dissemination of research results and coordinate of collaborative projects with a virology component.
Requirements for Appointment
  • A PhD degree in any relevant area of biological sciences, but with specializing in virology.
  • Outstanding scientific insights in either: immunology; vaccinology; molecular biology; biochemistry, proteomics/genomics or any other related field.
  • At least three (3) publications in refereed journals or two (2) publications and I chapter in scholarly books.
  • Must demonstrate evidence of continuing research activity.
