Kenya Cultural Centre Career Opportunities: Director

Post of Director

The Kenya Cultural Centre incorporating the Kenya National Theater (KCC) is a State Corporation under the Ministry of State for National Heritage and Culture.

Its mandate is to nurture and promote artistic excellence, Kenyan aesthetics and identity, and positive cultural values in society.

It provides facilities for the use and enjoyment by all, in areas of performance of music, drama, dancing; the exhibition of works of art and craft and holding of meetings for discussion on matters of literary, historical, scientific and educational interest or import.

To achieve its mandate the KCC Governing Council seeks to recruit its Director on a 3 year renewable contract.

The duties of the Director include:
  • Be the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Kenya Cultural Centre
  • Provide leadership in the development of attractive, innovative and self-sustaining cultural and artistic programmes
  • Establish and maintain collaboration with key local and international partners
  • Implement all Council policies and decisions
  • Mobilise resources and control the Board's financial affairs, maintaining an efficient and effective liaison with all Government departments and other agencies
  • Direct and coordinate programmes and initiatives of KCC
  • Serve as the Council's Secretary
Qualifications and Experience
  • A minimum of university degree in Social or Cultural studies,
  • A master's degree or / and a Post Graduate qualification in artistic or cultural studies will be an advantage
  • A minimum of 5 years experience at senior management position in a medium to large organization
  • Experience in managing a cultural organisation or center will be an added advantage
Key Competencies

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes:
  • Excellent strategic thinking, visionary, leadership, and communication skills with demonstrated ability to prepare written documents suitable to a variety of audiences
  • Ability to manage diversity, identify and harness artistic talents and opportunities
  • Proven ability to initiate, market and manage social, cultural and artistic events
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili is essential
  • Good knowledge of electronic communications and information technology
