Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs) Career Opportunity: Mt Kenya University (MKU)

Mt Kenya University (MKU) is an institution of Higher Learning authorized to operate as a privately sponsored university.

Its Vision is to be a centre of excellence in training, research and innovation in Science and Technology in Africa.

Guided by the spirit of Inter University Council of East Africa (IUCEA) to which MKU is a member, the university has established Academic Programme Exchange with Rwanda Tourism University College, Kigali, Rwanda and Gulu University, Gulu, Uganda.

Currently the University has over 4000 students pursuing certificate, diploma and degree programmes in various disciplines and a workforce of over 200 members of staff.

With a strong inclination towards science and technology, the University desires to strengthen its academic Division by recruiting a Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs.

Duties and Responsibilities of Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs.:
  • Provide support to university's research initiatives.
  • Provide administrative support to all academic programmes of the university.
  • To monitor and ensure compliance with regulatory bodies requirements.
  • Prepare and monitor academic affairs budget and ensure continuous planning of all academic matters including new academic programmes in line with University's strategic plan.
  • To be in charge of all academic matters, supervision and mentorship of academic staff.
  • Oversee recruitment of teaching staff in collaboration with the Human Resource Manager.
  • Co-ordination of academic outreach programmes.
  • Co-ordination of academic linkages
  • Co-ordination of student affairs which include admission, orientation, records, counselling, career guidance, job placement and discipline.
Qualifications:
  • Ph.D holder preferably in any Science and Technology or Applied Social Science academic areas.
  • Evidence of publications and supervision of post-graduate students
  • Teaching experience of at least 3 years in an institution of higher learning.
  • Evidence of administrative experience of an acceptable level of at least 2 years in an institution of higher learning.
