Associate-Catalyst Principal Partners

Catalyst is a regional private equity investor focus on mid-market growth capital investments in
Eastern Africa. We are looking for an Associate based in Nairobi to support the team in structuring, evaluation, originating, executing and monitoring investment analyses, conducting research, preparing support documentation and assisting in due diligence efforts, and portfolio management.

Major Responsibilities:
1. Assessment, evaluation and management of potential investments.
2. Quantitative: historical financial analysis; commercial analysis of companies; financial
modelling/ projection/ evaluation analysis; measurement of investment returns analysis.
3. Qualitative: business/ investment analysis & research; deal issues/ risk/ term/ structure
analysis; people/ management (alignment of interests/conflicts) and environmental analysis.
4. Investment management: deal origination, marketing and relationship management;
transaction structuring, negotiation and execution; portfolio management and analysis.
5. Practical use of different financial instruments in deal structures.
6. Sourcing and analysing relevant sectoral information.
7. Modeling proposed transactions and writing internal investment papers.
8. Generating performance and valuation reports on existing investments and presentations for
specific opportunities.

Requirements:

• Graduate (3.0 minimum) in economics, finance, accounting, business or similar.
• Accredited MBA beneficial.
• 4 years work experience in the financial sector.
• Strong excel skills and proficiency in MS office suite.
• Excellent technical & modelling skills, strong analytical ability.
• Additional relevant qualification/ some progress in CFA, ACCA beneficial.

Experience:
· Corporate finance/investment, management, emerging markets focus beneficial
· Strong financial modelling, research, due diligence and business analysis experience
· Strong corporate finance and transactional experience
· Good understanding of the investment culture
· Strong marketing and business development experience would be beneficial
· Good exposure to direct liaison with clients
· General Africa knowledge beneficial and regional network a plus
