Senior Operations Coordinator Job at East African Community

Applications are invited from suitably qualified citizens of East Africa (Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and Burundi) for the following position at the East African Community Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.

This is a project position supported by the Government of the United Kingdom through DFID funding.

The position is non established and the contract terms are limited to three years with a possibility of renewal subject to performance and extension of funding support by DFID.

Senior Operations Coordinator

Grade: Professional Staff Category (P2 Equivalent)
Reports to: Secretary General / Director of Operations

Organ/Institution: East African Community Secretariat
Duration of Contract: 3 Years Fixed Term (Non-Established)
Station: Secretary General’s Office, EAC Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania

Main Purpose of the Job
  • Ensure the effective coordination, management and implementation of special projects falling under the Secretary General’s office.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Undertake overall logistics and management administration of special projects.
  • Make a follow up on implementation of special projects and in consultation with relevant professional staff develop feedback mechanism.
  • Liaise with relevant functional units to ensure that responsibilities relating to technical issues within special projects are executed in a timely manner.
  • Monitor and supervise maintenance of special projects’ records and documentation.
  • Provide administrative liaison among various special projects’ stakeholders.
  • In liaison with the Resource Mobilization Unit, prepare budget proposals and mobilise for resources for the implementation of special projects.
  • In liaison with the Corporate Communication Unit, ensure that special projects receive visibility and publicity among relevant stakeholders.
  • In liaison with the Human Resources Department, identify capacity development needs for special projects.
  • Carry out research and keep abreast of issues impinging on special projects.
  • Undertake any other responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time within the Secretary General’s office.
Qualifications
  • Masters degree in any of the following areas: Management, Public/Business Administration, or Economics.
Experience
  • At least 5 years’ experience in coordination and management of regional special projects.
  • Experience in coordinating work of a Chief Executive is desirable.
  • Ability to work under tight schedules, juggle multiple tasks, establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers, project stakeholders and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds is also desirable.
Skills and Competencies
  • Analytical, interactive, results oriented, computer literate, planning, networking, project team building, project implementation, research.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and working knowledge in English are essential.
Circumstances
  • Willing to accept an initial three year management contract.
  • Must be prepared to live and work in Arusha, Tanzania.
  • Age: 30 - 45 years.
Terms and Conditions of Service

This position is DFID funded, and is a non established position whose contract terms are limited to the period of support (3 years) and may only be renewed subject to extension of the funding.

Attractive consolidated remuneration packages for non-established fixed contract positions will be paid in accordance with the EAC regulations on short term Staff contracts.
