SOLIDARITES is a humanitarian organisation which provides aid and assistance to victims of war or natural disaster.
For over 25 years the association has concentrated its action on meeting three vital needs - water, food and shelter - by carrying out emergency programmes followed by reconstruction projects.
Whilst fully respecting the assisted populations’ customs and culture, SOLIDARITES’ programmes are implemented through the joint expertise of around 150 expatriates and 1500 local managerial staff and employees.
Nowadays, SOLIDARITES is present in Africa (Burundi, Central African Republic, Southern Sudan, Kenya, Somalia, Liberia, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, Zimbabwe), and Asia (Afghanistan, Thailand, Bangladesh, Myanmar).
Overview of Solidarités’ mission in the country
The joint Kenya / Somalia mission is relatively young (started in March 2007) and includes 2 projects in South Somalia, and 2 projects in Kenya.
In Kenya, SOLIDARITES has one project in Lodwar, and another one in Nairobi’s slums. All these projects focus on Water and Sanitation and Food Security, whether in an emergency context or a recovery context. In Somalia, SOLIDARITES has one project in Bardera district / Gedo and another one in Afmadow district / Lower Juba.
Objectives of this position
The Food security coordinator is the responsible for the proper implementation and quality of the food security component in all Kenya and Somalia programs. He is a technical focal point and an advisor for food security for the Kenya / Somalia team.
The Food security coordinator is under the direct responsibility of the Country Director.

Tasks of this position
Responsible for the quality of food security activities
- Guaranty that food security activities are implemented according to the standardized methodology, with a participatory approach
Capitalization / Technical Advisor
- Organize workshops and regular communications in purpose to share experiences and develop capacity building strategies among different field teams
- Check the relevancy of technical designs or solutions proposed at the proposal level or during the course of the project
Representation
- Represent Solidarites in different food security coordination meetings
Monitoring of the humanitarian situation/ Assessments
- Monitor constantly the food security humanitarian situation in Kenya and Somalia
- Develop early effective warning systems and tools to monitor the humanitarian situation and report to the coordination team Direct support of the field team
- Support field teams in the design and the implementation of the food security activities
- Support field teams in the drafting of proposals and reports
Elaborate and guide the sectorial strategy
- Carry out, analyse and capitalise humanitarian assessments done by SOLIDARITES and other partners related with food security issues.
- Elaborate our intervention strategy in accordance with the proposals if any, for each area and each context.
Reporting
- Prepare and is responsible of reporting related to food security programs
Profile
Expériences:
Expériences:
- Master degree in food security / agriculture engineering or equivalent Experience
- At least 5 years of field experience with NGOs in food security activities, based on community participation
- At least 2 year of field Experience with NGOs in a management position
- Proven experience of assessments, of proposal writings, monitoring and evaluation
Languages:
- English (working language): fluent with excellent writing capacities
- French or Kiswahili remains desirable
Personal skills:
- High self-control capacity, rigour.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative and live in a sometimes solitary environment with significant restrictions on personal movement.
- Reactivity and adaptation to a very moving context
- Good writing capacities
Contract Length: 12 months, starting ASAP
Salary / Indemnity:
Salaried contract SOLIDARITES will pay for accommodation and travel expenses from the expatriate’s country of origin to the site of the assignment
Depending on the assignment, volunteers receive each month on the premises a 400 to 500 Euros amount in order to meet food and other expenses Social and medical cover
Expatriates are on welfare which reimburses all healthcare expenses (medical and surgical expenses, dental care and ophthalmological expenses, repatriation) and a welfare system including war risks.
Necessary vaccination and ant malarial treatment costs are refunded.
Vacation:
During the assignment, a system of alternation between work and time off is implemented: SOLIDARITES impose breaks between two working periods. One break every three months.
For a one year duration assignment, the expatriate will have a break during the 3rd and the 9th month after the beginning of the assignment (with a 500 Euros amount deposited by Solidarités).
He/She will also be entitled to go back to France for a 15 day period after six months spent on the mission (Solidarités will pay for travel costs)
