Justice Africa is currently launching a major project to stimulate dialogue across the country on the referendum. We are therefore looking to put together a very strong team to run this extremely challenging but vital project. To this end we seek a highly competent and highly experienced Project Officer.

Justice Africa is an advocacy organisation and research institute founded in London in 1999 to campaign for human rights and social justice across Africa. Justice Africa contributes to understanding and resolving some of the most pressing issues on the continent, by means of conferences, media work, publications, direct engagement with policy makers, as well as initiating and supporting civil society activities for peace, justice and democracy in Africa. Justice Africa has become one of the most distinctive and individual voices for Africa and has achieved this because it is run by, for and with Africans and African communities; guided by the Pan-African slogan “Nothing for me without me”





Project Overview



Justice Africa is now launching a major dialogue project across Sudan, bringing together Sudanese stakeholders in a discussion of the main issues related to the question of unity and secession. The largest and most challenging component of the project is a ‘Sudan-Sudan’ Dialogue, which will, over the next year, convene large public town hall style meetings in nearly every state capital in the country. The timeframe, scale and scope of the project are extremely demanding and require a highly competent team, with staff who can take on responsibility immediately. To this end, Justice Africa is seeking two Project Officers under two sectors – Northern and Southern Sudan.





Overview

Contribute to the successful delivery of all activities through programme planning, implementation, effective partner and stakeholder liaison, reporting and strong teamwork.



Responsibilities

· In cooperation with project management, contribute to planning and design of dialogue events.

· Make preparatory field trips to state capitals prior to events, to undertake necessary groundwork for dialogue events.

· Work closely with Sudanese partner organizations to put in place necessary processes for successful dialogue events in state capitals, including participant selection, stakeholder mobilization and community and local authorities’ liaison.

· Advise and discuss with project management key local issues to be considered in developing agendas, speakers and facilitation for events.

· In partnership with the logistics team, ensure that all necessary measures are in place to ensure successful events.

· Collaborate with the Media and Documentation team in recording and documenting event outcomes and monitoring project progress.

· Represent Justice Africa with partners, stakeholders, local authorities, community representatives on issues related to dialogue events.

· Provide high quality and timely narrative reports as required.




Experience / Key Requirements



- Minimum of five years senior experience in project management in a relevant area of work with close linkage to communities and local authorities (peace building, capacity building, dialogue etc).

- Wide travel throughout either Northern or Southern Sudan.

-High level of fluency in written and spoken English; high level of fluency in spoken Arabic.

- Ability to manage tight deadlines.

- Ability to troubleshoot problems and handle high levels of pressure.

- Excellent team player.
