Project Officer

Position:      Project Officer
Organization: Japan Center for Conflict Prevention
Duty Station:   Juba
Starting:       Immediate
Duration:      Three months probation period with possible extension

Background:
Japan Center for Conflict Prevention (JCCP) is a non-governmental organization established in 1999 in Japan. JCCP’s mission is to contribute to world’s peace and security through building human and social capacity for conflict prevention and peace-building. JCCP specializes in capacity building of NGOs and civil society, community security, training of experts in peacekeeping operations, peace-building for civilian, police and military, education and livelihood support. JCCP currently has three sub-offices worldwide: Kenya, Cambodia and Balkans. JCCP is newly establishing an office in Juba, Sudan to implement projects to support vulnerable children and youth in Juba through provision of sensitization and vocational training.
JCCP Juba Office is seeking to recruit a Project Officer to support the implementation of projects.
Duties and responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager/Country Director, the Project Officer will perform the following duties:
  • Establish contact with children and youths living under harsh condition and build a good relationship with them and the community with the community mobilizing team;
  • Provide inputs to the selection of beneficiaries for the projects and the development of curriculum for sensitization and vocational training;
  • Assist in developing questionnaires for project evaluation;
  • Follow-up on beneficiaries during and following the project implementation to maximize the result of the projects;
  • Assist the drafting of regular progress reports to the donors;
  • Coordinate a team of three community mobilizers to implement project activities;
  • Liaise with the authority;
  • Conduct any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor

Experience and Qualification:
  • University Degree in Social Science, Social Work, or related field
  • At least 5 years of progressive working experience in a related field (i.e. project management, facilitation, awareness raising, working with children or other vulnerable groups)
  • Excellent drafting skills
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks by setting priority
  • Ability to maintain a good relationship with colleagues, beneficiaries, partners, government, donor organizations and other stakeholders
  • Approaches work with positive constructive attitude
  • Cross cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • Excellent spoken and written English and spoken Arabic
  • Understanding of at least one of the local languages
