TEMPORARY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT KEMRI/CDC PROGRAM

Program description: The KEMRI/CDC program has a vacancy in the Influenza Program of the Global Disease Detection Division for ten nurses positions. The specific work for this position is to administer H1N1 influenza vaccines in the Kibera, monitor adverse events, and collect information from patients. This position is for a three month contract with an option to renew.


POSITION: NURSES (10 POSITIONS) MR 7 (JOB GROUP K)

LOCATION: Kibera

LANGUAGE: Fluency in English and Kiswahili (written and oral)

Essential requirements:

* Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution.
* At least 2 years experience of clinical experience in caring for infants, children and adults.
* Experience administering vaccines
* Proficiency in computer usage especially Microsoft packages



Desirable Skills:

* Previous work in health facilities in Kibera or in the field
* Research experience would be an added advantage
* Excellent social, interpersonal, communication and listening skills, open minded and non-judgmental.
* Ability to work independently as well as an active member of the team.



Job Summary:

Reporting to the Clinic Manager and/or study coordinator, the incumbent will administer H1N1 influenza vaccine, register study participants, complete study forms, and monitor adverse events.

Major duties and responsibilities:

1. Assist in the set-up of vaccine kiosks in Kibera.
2. Administer H1N1 influenza vaccine to target populations.
3. Provide counsel as needed on influenza and H1N1 vaccination safety.
4. Register patients who receive the vaccine and collect information.
5. Enter patient list into a computer or written log.
6. Follow up with patients as needed to monitor adverse events.
7. Respond to questions about the study posed by participants and the community.
8. Maintain a good relationship with the community and other clinic staff.
9. Must develop an in depth understanding of the study’s goals and the logistics required to conduct the study.
10. Keep accurate records and check study forms for completeness and accuracy each day.
11. Attend meetings related to the study.
12. Perform other duties assigned the management/supervisor.



TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Contract for 3 months, renewable as per KEMRI scheme of service. Salary negotiable within the appropriate grade depending on education, experience and demonstrated competency.
