1. Managing Director

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Managing Director will be the chief executive of the organisation with responsibility of formulating, determining and implementing, within the powers delegated by the Board, the general policy and programmes of the company.

Key responsibilities
- Provide advice to the Board on all matters related to marine transport and ferry services;
- Ensure the effective management and utilisation of the financial, human and other resources to meet the operational, statutory, social and economic objectives of the company;
- Ensure the development and implementation of appropriate strategies and policies that will ensure that Kenya Ferry Services fulfils its mandate
- Provide guidance in the preparation and implementation of business plans and budgets;
- Foster a conducive corporate culture that promotes ethical practices and good governance, as well as attracting, retaining and motivating employees;
- Secure effective cooperation with other public, private and international bodies to ensure the interests of the company are promoted/safe-guarded;
- Act as the organization’s principal spokesperson; and
- Promote effective communication between the Board and all levels of management to ensure sustainable growth.
Qualification, Experience and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics or a related field (an MBA will be an added advantage);
- A team leader with at least 10 years management experience at a senior level;
- Experience in networking and resource mobilization;
- Demonstrated experience in change management with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills;
- Experience in marine transportation will be an added advantage;
- Proficiency in MS Office Applications; and
- The ideal candidate should be between 35 – 50 years.
2. Chief Accountant

Reporting to the Managing Director, the Chief Accountant will be responsible for formulating and implementing the company’s financial policies and plans that will ensure the achievement of business targets and increased shareholder value.

- Advice the Board and management on financial matters;
- Provide leadership in the formulation and implementation of sound financial management strategies policies and systems;
- Supervise the timely preparation of monthly management accounts, quarterly reporting and annual financial and statutory accounts;
- Drive the budgetary and financial planning process and provide accurate management information to the Management and the Board;
- Oversee the overall expenditure control function and the establishment and improvement of effective internal financial controls and the implementation of sound transaction recording process.
- Advise Management on short and long-term investment opportunities and undertake regular appraisal of the investment portfolio;
- Ensure integrity in financial and management reporting;
- Assess business risk and create financial awareness on resource allocation, cost reduction and financial discipline; and
- Lead and develop staff in the department.
Qualification, Experience and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in a Finance, Accounting, Business or related field, (an MBA will be an added advantage);
- A professional qualification in Accounting such as CPA, ACCA;
- 8 years experience in Finance, with at least 5 years in a senior management position;
- Experience in successful resource mobilisation;
- Team player with strong leadership and management skills;
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines;
- Proficiency in MS Office Applications and other ICT packages; and
- The ideal candidate should be between 35 – 45 years.
3. Chief Engineer
Ref: KFS/CE/10/01
Reporting to the Managing Director, the Chief Engineer will be responsible for the delivery of efficient and effective engineering support services for the ferries and related equipment.
A major responsibility involves ensuring the safety of the customers by regulating the quality of services provided and maintaining the performance of the ferries’ utilities.
Key responsibilities:

Reporting to the Managing Director, the Chief Engineer will be responsible for the delivery of efficient and effective engineering support services for the ferries and related equipment.
A major responsibility involves ensuring the safety of the customers by regulating the quality of services provided and maintaining the performance of the ferries’ utilities.
Key responsibilities:
- Advise management on Marine Engineering matters and provide leadership in formulating equipment replacement programmes and specifications for the acquisition of marine crafts and related engineering equipment and plant;
- Schedule the planned maintenance programmes for floating crafts and ensure these are maintained in accordance with the Lloyds standards;
- Ensure that best maintenance standards and practices are put in place and develop and maintain adequate procedures for ensuring the sustenance of the standards within acceptable cost limits;
- Maintain adequate and updated records of drawing and plans for projects undertaken and /or alterations carried out on the ferries and other crafts, equipment and plant, and ensure their safe storage;
- Monitor the progress on the maintenance of marine equipment/plant undertaken by the KFS technicians and/or contractors to ensure that they are carried out according to the specifications and within the costs and time limits;
- Supervise and direct, specialised installation of parts required for the functioning of marine equipment and plant;
- Ensure observance of statutory regulations and insurance requirements for the safe condition of the ferries, plant, gear and equipment;
- Develop, review and enforce regulations, standards, codes and customer charters relating to the use of the Ferry services and;
- Develop staff within the department.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
- A Bachelors degree in Engineering;
- A professional qualification in Marine Engineering
- At least seven (7) years relevant experience, three (3) of which must be in a senior management position;
- Experience in maintenance of marine craft;
- Understanding of the contemporary issues in the transport sector; and
- A self motivated individual, with strong leadership, interpersonal, decision making, communication and presentation skills.
4. Company Secretary and Head of Human Resources
Ref: KFS/CS/10/01
Reporting to the Managing Director, the Company Secretary and Head of Human Resource will be responsible for discharging statutory duties of Secretary to the Board of Directors and oversee the Human Resource function.

- Provide leadership in development and implementation of Human Resource strategies and programmes of the organization;
- Organise, prepare agenda for and take minutes of Board meetings and Annual General meetings;
- Maintain statutory books, including registers of members, directors or secretaries;
- Deal with correspondence, collate information, write reports and ensure Board decisions are communicated to the relevant company stakeholders;
- Advise the Board on the legal implications of decisions made and proposed policies;
- Monitor changes in the relevant legislation and the regulatory environment and advising on appropriate action;
- Liaise with external regulators and advisors such as lawyers and auditors; and
- Develop and oversee the systems to ensure the organisation is in compliance with applicable legal and statutory requirements.
- Establish frameworks for the continuous development and review of the human resources capabilities/competencies through effective performance management programmes, succession plans and career management processes;
- Advise on, and develop compensation and benefits programmes that are competitive and commercially focused;
- Develop and implement effective employee communication systems aimed at nurturing/promoting employee identification with the vision, mission and objectives of KFS;
- Drive employees/industrial relations activities and directly liaise with the Ministry of Labour, FKE, Industrial Court and other related Bodies/Authorities on matters involving negotiations/disputes and related issues;
- Provide advice to Management on change management implications arising from corporate strategic plans and other company programmes.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
- A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized university;
- Must be advocates of the High Court of Kenya ;
- Certified Public Secretaries (CPS (K);
- At least ten (10) years experience in a busy legal environment, five (5) of which should be in a legal/company secretarial department;
- An accomplished HR professional with a track record for delivering change and workforce productivity;
- Must have outstanding integrity with the ability to work with minimal supervision; and
- Proven advocacy skills with the ability to communicate clearly and confidently are essential.
5. Supplies and Procurement Manager

Reporting to the Managing Director, the Supplies and Procurement Manager will be responsible for the provision of quality procurement services in accordance with the Government procurement policies and ensure the maintenance of optimum
stock levels consonant with sound commercial practices.

- Ensure strict compliance with laws and regulations governing public procurement including disposal of assets;
- Develop sound partnerships with suppliers, clients and relevant Government agencies;
- Plan and develop effective and efficient procurement arrangements and ensure stocks are maintained at optimum levels;
- Maintain effective relationships with users and regularly evaluate the provision of the services to ensure that they meet the needs and requirements of user departments;
- Assist user departments in the preparation of tender specifications;
- Supervise the delivery of goods and services to ensure that specifications given are adhered to and maintained;
- Carry out periodic evaluation of the performance of suppliers; and
- Secretary of the procurement committee of the Board.
Qualification, Experience and Skills:
- A Bachelor of Commerce or Business Administration degree or equivalent from a recognized institution;
- A professional post graduate qualification in Supply Management or its equivalent e.g. KISM / CIPS;
- At least seven (7) years relevant experience and a good understanding of the public procurement rules and regulations;
- Demonstrated understanding of public sector procurement guidelines as per the Public Procurement and Disposal Act 2005;
- Professional integrity, results oriented and self-drive, with the ability to work independently and adhere to strict deadlines.
