About RI: Relief International (RI) is an international relief and development agency with cross-sectoral programs bridging relief and development. The Project Manager will work in Uganda with RI’s EnterpriseWorks/VITA division that specializes in combating poverty by helping small producers and other entrepreneurs build sustainable businesses that improve services, create jobs and increase productivity, market opportunities and incomes.
Position Summary:
Uganda Project Manager – Commercial Water Product Distribution. RI/EWV is seeking a Project Manager for the commercial promotion of innovative, affordable domestic rainwater harvesting/storage products that will enable mainly rural households in Uganda to better satisfy their safe water access needs.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
The Project Manager will be responsible for:
- working with manufacturers of product components, assemblers, and providers of packaging, promotion and distribution services to develop the necessary supply chain and distribution channels for the domestic rainwater harvesting/storage products
- assisting in the identification of a team of promotion agents and technicians that will assist in the development of the supply and distribution channels
- providing the agents and technicians with any oversight and training needed to ensure the timely achievement of project goals and objectives
- setting up a system to effectively monitor overall progress in achieving project results
- regularly reporting project progress against goals and objectives in line with donor requirements and RI guidelines
- monitoring and reporting on project advances and expenditures in line with RI systems and guidelines
- As appropriate and required, provide the Country Director with immediate knowledge and analysis of any potential misconduct or gap in field procedures with regards to operations and administration policies
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
This position demands a dynamic individual with a demonstrated ability to achieve results in a demanding and fast paced environment. The successful candidate will have:
- 8-10 years of experience in the private sector (preferably in marketing) and experience managing a team of people.
- A Bachelor's degree in Business or Marketing or related field and preferably an advanced degree.
- An understanding of and/or direct experience working in the ‘development sector’ (e.g.: balancing development interests with commercial imperatives) is desirable.
- A demonstrated ability to design/supervise appropriate business/project performance management and tracking tools (MIS) is important.
- East African experience. Experience in Uganda is considered an advantage.
- Knowledge of existing retail points of sale.
- Experience with manufacturers of product components, assemblers, packaging, promotion, and distribution.
- Experience managing a team of Promotion agents and staff technicians
- Excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills and liaison and public relations skills in English are essential.
The project has a duration of 3.5 years with a start in November 2009
Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
