Competitive Research Grant for Phd (20) and Msc (20) Students

National Council for Science and Technology (NCST) is a statutory institution of the Government of Kenya established by the Science and Technology Act, Chapter 250.

One of the main functions of the NCST is to consider and advise generally on scientific activities including the application of the results of research; the transfer of technology into agriculture and industry.

Kenya Vision 2030 recognizes Science, Technology and Innovation (ST&I) as one of the key foundations whose application can raise productivity and efficiency across all sectors of the economy.

The NCST invites postgraduate students from both public and private universities to submit proposals for funding under the Science, Technology and Innovation (ST&I) Grant from the Government of Kenya in thematic areas of Pure and Applied Sciences, Mathematics, Engineering, and Technology.

The Objective is to strengthen postgraduate research in Kenyan institutions of higher learning.

Applicants must be Kenyan citizens who are registered students in a local university and already in their year of research.

The Research proposal must have been approved by the Graduate School where the applicant is studying and be submitted through the applicant's supervisors.

Each application must contain a duly filled typed Application Form, and recommendation letter from the Director of Research of the University where the applicant is registered together with a copy of applicant's Identity Card.

The Application Form can be downloaded from NCST website: www.ncst.go.ke.

Applications with incomplete content or received after the deadline will not be considered.

Those who have received ST&I or other Government research grants recently are not eligible.

The competitive ST&I Grant will only cover the student's research costs up to a maximum of Kenyan Shillings 200,000 for Master's students and 400,000 per year for PhD students and the project duration should not exceed one year for MSc and three years for PhD.

Applications, in both hard and soft copy, should be submitted to the address below or delivered to Utalii House, 8th floor Room 822 not later than 16.00hrs Friday 20th November 2009.
