CARE International Jobs: Senior AFOLU Advisor

Location: Kenya - Nairobi

CARE International (CI) is seeking to recruit a senior advisor to support implementation of the carbon finance component of CI’s worldwide climate change strategy.

The Senior AFOLU Advisor will focus on provision of technical assistance, programme development, tools for carbon finance programming, and capacity building.

In the context of this position, AFOLU focuses on afforestation/reforestation, soil carbon, and reduced deforestation and forest degradation (REDD).

The Senior AFOLU Advisor is a member of the secretariat of CI’s Poverty, Environment and Climate Change Network (PECCN) which is a network of professionals from CI Country Offices, their partner organisations, and CI Members who are committed to addressing the challenges of environmental change from the perspective of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people.

Key qualifications include:
  • At least 2 years experience working on the development of AFOLU carbon projects, including the design of financing arrangements and preparation of PINs and PDDs
  • A good working knowledge of agriculture/agroforestry/forestry programming in a Developing Country context, and preferably at least 3 years experience in the design and implementation of agriculture/agroforestry projects
  • Experience in the process of achieving VCS (or equivalent) and CCBA certification
  • Experience in the design and implementation of training programmes
  • Strong computer skills including ability to work with knowledge management software
  • Proven networking skills in a climate change context
  • Masters degree in a relevant discipline
This position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya, with substantial international travel (up to 33%). Other locations may be considered but preference will be given to candidates able to be based in Nairobi.
