Consultant for Agribusiness Accelerator ( Providing Growth Finance for SMEs)
The Regional Consultant will work with the Project Leader to launch a pilot financing facility, targeting agribusiness SMEs in East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda) that would be ineligible for traditional financing options. The consultant will help facilitate the launch of the project, and aid in establishing standard operational procedures and an institutional foundation, with a focus the facility’s continuation beyond the pilot phase. The project will be a nine-month project, with a mid-term review at the end of six months. Continuation of the pilot beyond the six-month review will depend on the pilot project meeting pre-determined goals and objectives.
The client seeking someone to be available on a part-time basis – for roughly 60% of their time over the nine months.
Scope of Work:
1. Help perform necessary due-diligence on target deals. Advise management and board on potential top deals.
2. Design and evaluate (cost) potential technical assistance components for prospective deals
3. Research and identify potential technical assistance needs, as well as firms providing those services in each country. Create short-list of technical assistance providers and preferred partners in each country, based on forecasted technical assistance needs.
4. Identify and develop a network of potential advisors, mentors, and investors in each of the target countries (Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda).
5. Establish a regional advisory board. Act as primary liaison on day-to-day affairs with the board. Provide logistical and administrative support to the board as necessary.
6. Coordinate the activities of the hired country consultants. Develop a pipeline of potential deals. Prioritize deal pipeline based on a define set of metrics.
7. Provide other assistance to the Project Leader as needed, in areas such as governance issues, performance metrics, and institutional agreements.
Working Arrangements:
The consultant will work under the day to day leadership of the Project Leader. The client,s country offices in East Africa will be a resource fully available to support the team.
Qualifications
Degree in Finance with very strong accounting background, preferably CPA-K, or equivalent from an EA Country; strong background in Financial Investment; very good financial analysis and writing skills. Demonstrated experience in equity investment and financial management advisory services will be an added advantage.
