Applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified candidates who are Kenyan Nationals to fill the above post on a Fixed Term Appointment for a limited duration of one year. Further extensions beyond one year is subject to availability of funds and satisfactory performance.
Purpose: Under the guidance of the Child Health Specialist, responsible for the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Government of Kenya/ UNICEF Child Health programme within the health sector.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design, prepare, implement and evaluate disease reporting as well as epidemic preparedness and control.
- Collect and analyze health data for the situation analysis, planning, management and monitoring of emergency health services.
- Analyze Division of Disease Surveillance and Response (DDSR) programme implementation reports and evaluate against established programme recommendations and plans of actions.
- Support Ministry of Health Division of Vaccine and Immunization (DVI) in implementing strategies to improve immunization services, including capacity building and community mobilization, as well as the development of innovative approaches to increase the coverage of childhood vaccine preventable diseases and Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus (MNTE).
- Support implementation of community health strategy.
- Contribute towards the preparation and updating of health Situation Analysis by compiling data, analyzing and evaluating information.
- Contribute to the preparation of relevant PHC/Health sectoral strategy documents.
- Assist Government Authorities to plan and organizeEmergency planning and response training programmes.
- Identify, plan, organize and conduct training and orientation activities for the purpose of capacity building, expansion of coverage of services as well as promotion and advocacy.
- Meet with National and International Agencies covering the management of programmes. Participate in meetings with ministry of Health and follow up on implementation of recommendations.
- Participate in Inter-Agency Coordination Committee for Emergency planning and response and other coordination arrangements with other partners.
- Undertake field visits to monitor emergency preparedness and conduct programme reviews with Government counterparts and other partners.
- Coordinate with the Operations/Supply staff on supply and non-supply assistance activities ensuring accountability.
- Certify disbursement of funds, monitor and submit financial status reports to the Deputy Representative or Representative, as required.
- Prepare programme/project status reports required for donors, budget review, programme analysis and annual reports.
Experience: Five years of progressively responsible professional work experience at the National and International levels in programme management, monitoring and evaluation, in a related field.
Language: Fluency in English and another UN language required. Knowledge of the local working language of the duty station is an asset,
Competencies: Knowledge of the latest developments and technology in child health and related fields. Analytical, negotiating, communication and advocacy skills. Supervisory and managerial skills, Leadership and teamwork abilities. Computer skills, including internet navigation and various office applications, Demonstrate ability to work in a multicultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships both within and outside the organization.
