Tanzania Food and Nutrition Centre (TFNC) is pleased to announce the post of Country Manager for a project named Cassava: Adding Value for Africa, (C:AVA), funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and coordinated by Natural Resources Institute (NRI) of UK.
The Project
C:AVA, which is being implemented in five African countries, namely Ghana, Malawi, Nigeria, Uganda and Tanzania, has the objective of supporting sustainable and equitable high quality cassava flour chains in five African countries thereby improve livelihoods and incomes of small holder households and stakeholders in micro, small and medium scale enterprises. In Tanzania the project is to be implemented over a three year period commencing October 2008 under the auspices of Tanzania Food and Nutrition Centre.
Duties and responsibilities
The Country Project Manager will have overall responsibility for efficient management of the project during its implementation. In particular he/ she will be responsible for:
- Coordination of all project activities in the country and report to the Project Manager,
- To effectively manage the project to ensure that the project is implemented efficiently,
- Make sure that the resources are utilized in a cost effective manner,
- Identify problems and resolve them in a timely manner,
- Take advantage of opportunities when and where they appear,
- Manage planning, implementation and reporting for the project,
- Provide mentoring support to project stakeholders,
- Use the project plan to actively chase progress through regular critical evaluation of activities and
- To oversee financial and procurement processes within/under the project.
The ideal candidate should be a holder of MSc in Agricultural Economics or Food Science and Technology. Possession of a PhD will be an added advantage. In addition to academic qualifications, the person should have an in depth experience of cassava post-harvest industry or knowledgeable in the technical as well as the business of agricultural commodities especially roots and tubers. The person should also have experience of working with and supporting the private sector. The preferred candidate will have the ability to manage staff and resources.
Terms of engagement
The position is for a 3 year contract commencing 1st December 2008. The Country Manager, will be stationed in Dar es Salaam but expected to travel extensively to three selected zones where the project is to be implemented.
