The Oxfam Novib regional office is based in Nairobi, with a mandate for Somalia and South Sudan. The regional office consists of a humanitarian unit (HUB Somalia, covering humanitarian, lobby, advocacy and media work) and a unit focusing on supporting and implementing civil society capacity strengthening programmes in South Sudan and Somalia.
Purpose of the job
To coordinate the planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the EC funded programme 'Improved protection of human rights in Somalia/land through strengthening the role and capacity of Somali civil society organizations expected to start per 1st December 2008.
Main tasks and responsibilities
- Provide technical inputs required in the design of the programme.
- Coordinate the planning and implementation of programme activities according to programme document.
- Identify and undertake selection of credible civil society organisations to partner with in the implementation of the programmes.
- Provide technical support to the partners in the implementation of the programme and, if applicable, support and coordinate consultants to do so.
- Undertake effective and efficient grant management.
- Contribute to the development of the Oxfam Novib Nairobi's annual and strategic plans.
- Prepare and submit narrative and financial reports as provided for in the donor contract, and ensure that partners and consultants submit their contributions in time and with high quality.
- Identify possible funding opportunities.
- Maintain sound relationship with donors, including Oxfam International and other agencies.
- Ensure that the documentation of the programme activities is correctly done and maintained, including digital processing in Pastel Evolution.
- Monitor the implementation of programme activities, identify opportunities and constraints and provides advice for adjustments to plans.
- Perform any other relevant duties at the request of the line manager.
- Bachelor degree in Social Sciences
- Postgraduate Diploma in Development studies or Project Management desired.
- 5 years relevant work experience
