Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Resettlement Officer and the overall supervision of the Head of Sub Office, the incumbent will perform the following functions:

1. Interview refugees and document case histories, complete written case assessments, and carefully record progressive action on refugee cases, systematically following established resettlement criteria and procedures for casework documentation;

2. Conduct resettlement interviews and prepare resettlement submissions of identified cases which will require the accurate and timely completion of Resettlement Referral Forms (RRFs) for identified refugees;

3. Counsel refugees concerning resettlement decisions taken by the Unit and by embassies, and respond in a timely manner to incoming enquiries from refugees and other persons of concern; under the direction of the supervisor, coordinate the provision of resettlement counselling in the three camps;

4. Systematically file correspondence, and document/update IC records (action sheet/database) according to communications and casework action taken;

5. Assist resettlement country missions by providing necessary administrative support;

6. Draft monthly reports regarding resettlement activities under the direction of the supervisor; reports should include statistics on all casework activities, work progress, and recommendations for improved service to the refugee community;

7. Coordinate the tracking of active cases throughout the resettlement process to identify gaps in case processing, and follow-up with assigned caseworkers to ensure procedures are followed to completion;

8. Assist the supervisor in monitoring anti-fraud tracking reports, and assist in the investigation of incidents of suspected resettlement fraud;

9. Perform any other duties as may be required.

Qualification Requirements:

Education and Skills: Completion of Secondary education. Other relevant and higher degree in law and/or social sciences desirable. Excellent written communication, analytical and interviewing skills essential. Highly conversant with computers, specifically electronic database programmes and advanced word-processing programs.

Experience: At least six years of work experience. Relevant experiences in eligibility adjudication in the resettlement context an advantage.

Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English and Kiswahili, knowledge of other UN language and/or language of a refugee community desirable.
