Managing Director Job Opportunity (For a leading bank in Eastern Africa)

Our client is a leading fully fledged bank in Eastern Africa, with many fully networked branches. The bank is among the top in terms of deposits, loans and total assets in its market.

The bank now seeks to recruit a Managing Director to spearhead growth and service strategy to the next level.

Job Profile

To ensure:
  • The Bank is run on sound commercial and professional principles and that its defined corporate objectives are pursued. Accordingly the management shall initiate short, medium and long-term strategies, action plans and targets in line with the defined vision, mission and objectives of the Bank.
  • The Bank's financial viability and cost structure are regularly analysed and appropriate measures undertaken to monitor and reduce costs in relation to the Bank's operations and services provided.
  • A regular review of the Bank's competitive environment is made and appropriate measures are taken to increase the market share and ensure that the Bank retains its market position in the country.
  • Management constantly looks for and seizes opportunities favourable to the expansion of the Bank's activities.
  • Decisions of the Executive and Management Committee are communicated to all levels of the Institution and are implemented.
  • The Staff Appointments, Development and Disciplinary Committees of Management vet all staff matters that require the attention of the Board prior to submission to the Board.
  • Staff motivation and loyalty are improved to minimize staff turnover.
  • All the risks attached to the Bank's activities, including investment, loans, overdrafts; inter-bank activities are regularly and properly evaluated, monitored and adequately secured.
  • Central Bank requirements are fulfilled at all times and the Bank retains its operating license from the Central Bank.
  • Organisational culture is maintained and developed, including its values, the reputation in the market while taking into account the various stakeholders.
  • The Bank acquires and maintains a solid reputation as a successful financial institution.
Person Profile
  • A Masters in Business Administration / Banking and Finance or an equivalent preferred.
  • Should be a professional banker preferably with a minimum of 15 years of banking experience of which 5 years as responsible of operations/credit department of a medium to large bank in a senior management level; preferably with experience in microfinance.
  • Must have strong managerial skills and execution capacity
  • Must be a team builder
Must also have technical skills in:
  • Risk management
  • Commercial credit (evaluation and underwriting techniques)
  • Microfinance (techniques in microfinance versus potential target markets)
  • IT knowledge as basis for future expansion and developments
  • Financial management (cost and management accounting to support efficient offer of services)
  • Assets and Liability Management
  • Treasury Management
