About the organization:
The Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust (MWCT) was founded in 2000 in order to carry out extensive long-term conservation and humanitarian projects on Kuku Group Ranch, located in southern Kenya 60km from Loitokitok. Kuku Group Ranch is unique because it is privately and collectively owned by several thousand Maasai and is located outside of government-run national parks.
The ecotourism and conservation projects in the area are, therefore, initiatives founded by the local Maasai and MWCT.
Some of MWCT’s ongoing projects include funding local schools and medical facilities and employing game scouts to protect local wildlife, among others.
MWCT currently employs 160 local people to work in the education, health and conservation programs.
About the position:
We are seeking a certified community nurse who is willing to run a local government dispensary within the operating areas of MWCT, which is located in Maasai-owned Kuku Group Ranch.
This job will entail working in a very rural location, and serving a Maasai community of approximately 8,000 people.
The right candidate should be very energetic, adaptable, willing to live in a remote area and work from a very rudimentary facility, which we hope to improve significantly with the assistance of a motivated nurse with a strong interest in public health.
The right person will be able to conduct basic diagnoses of typical ailments, address emergencies, and make referrals to the nearest hospital in the case of emergencies.
More importantly, he or she will work towards enhancing our current health program as a whole, and developing educational workshops, outreaches and meetings that will reach the entire
community.
