Program description: This program is a collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention whose remit is to conduct research in malaria, HIV and other diseases. There is currently a vacancy in the Malaria Mefloquine +CTX Study
POSITION: Auxiliary Staff (Cleaner -1 position) MR 2
Location: Siaya District Hospital
Essential Requirement
EDUCATION: KCPE Certificate with at least one year working in a hospital setting.
LANGUAGE Proficiency in written and verbal English.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Some experience working in laboratory or hospital environments preferred
- Fluency in Ki-Swahili and Dholuo an asset.
- Experience working in placental malaria studies will be an added advantage
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Auxilliary will report to the Laboratory Coordinator and will work with the Study Coordinator, field staff, and laboratory staff to manage collection of study samples and to keep the laboratory space clean.
SPECIFIC TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Auxilliary staff’s responsibilities shall include but are not limited to the following:
- Clean laboratory glassware, equipment, and laboratory space.
- Collect and preserve placentae.
- Ensure that all collected samples are properly stored.
- Maintain complete and accurate records of all job-related activities.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to work in a professional and ethical manner with competence accountability and integrity.
- Ability to work independently as well as an active member of a team.
- Detail oriented and meticulous in handling and labeling samples. Clear handwriting. Willing to live in either Siaya or Bondo. Those already working in Bondo or Siaya district hospitals will have an added advantage.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: A six (6) 1 year renewable Contract as per KEMRI scheme of service. Probation period for the first 3 months.
