  1. BACKGROUN DINFORMATION

COSV is an Italian NGO operating in the health sector in Southern Sudan since the 1994..

COSV Mission in Southern Sudan is composed by: 1 Project Manager ( Expat), 1 Health Coordinator, 1 Health Coordinator assistant, 1 Nurse and 1 Laboratory Technician. Regarding the Support Staff , it is composed by 1 Field Logistician, 1 Driver, 1 Compound Cook and 2 Watchmen.

  1. DESCRIPTION OF THE ROLE

The Midwife is the key person for implementation of the activities implemented by COSV in support of the Primary Health Care System in Nyal, Panyiar County, Unity State, Southern Sudan.

  • Supervision of the Health Staff ;
  • Preventive care and health promotion;
  • Promotion of Reproductive health;
  • Delivery care – MCH;
  • Curative Care;
  • First aid;
  • Conduct EPI activities for children ;
  • Organization of refreshing trainings on major health topics for the PHCC staff.

All the activities will be implemented in coordination with the SMoH /GoSS and with the other stakeholders involved in community health care system activities in Southern Sudan.

  1. MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSABILITIES
  2. Responsible for the supervision of all maternal and child health activities, including ante-natal and post-natal clinics, EPI and Growth Monitoring for all children under five years, health education activities on prevalent health concerns among women of child bearing age and children under 5 years of age;
  3. Registered Midwife in a recognized institution;
  4. Responsible for the training and supervision of all MCH staff, including the EPI team, MCHW, and TBAs;
  5. Coordinates the provision of mobile EPI and ANC activities, with the EPI supervisor and other MCH staffs;
  6. Teaches First aid, Nursing Procedures, and curative care at the PHCC according to national protocols;
  7. Assists in the ordering, storage, and distribution of all program supplies including MCH supplies, with the Health Care Coordinator, Logistic Assistants (including the organization and inventory record of the Supplies);
  8. Assists in the monitoring of MCH supplies utilization at PHCC;
  9. Assist in Epidemiological reporting and other data reports as deemed necessary;
  10. Prepares a narrative monthly report for project activities for COSV, using MOH-GOSS/UNICEF and COSV format ;
  11. Perform any other duties assigned by the Health Coordinator and or Health Coordinator Assistant;
  12. Attend to pregnant mothers, check medical documents and where necessary refer for specialist medical attention;
  13. Works collaboratively with health staff members of the PHCC Unit and with COSV health team (TB Unit Officers, Lab technologist).

  1. REQUIREMENTS
  2. Community Midwife experienced in TBA & EPI trainings, Maternal Child Health Management and provision of on-the job training;
  3. Excellent knowledge of midwifery education, legislation and regulation, preferably in the region;
  4. Relevant experience in monitoring and evaluation;
  5. Knowledge and experience in programme management;
  6. Demonstrated analytical and strategic planning skills;
  7. Demonstrated skills in team and consensus building;
  8. Fluency in computer and in other communication technologies;
  9. Fluency in English language; Arabic language desirable. The Knowledge of Nuer language is an added advantage;
