We are looking for a professional boat driver who values integrity, honesty and high standards. This professional is able to work with minimal supervision. The incumbent should be easily adaptable to new situations and guests of all walks of life. The interested person should be able to control situations with confidence and work well under pressure. The ability to deal with guest complaints and communicate effectively is a must have. The incumbent should value team work and is flexible yet able to mark boundaries and has a drive to excel. Since the incumbent will be working in a potentially dangerous area of work, knowledge of water and boat safety and the lake's behaviour is a must.
Requirements:
- Fluent in English and Kiswahili
- Proven experience of at least 3 years as a skipper on a traditional 30 ft wooden boat on Lake Victoria
- Knowledge of safety procedures and the use of safety equipment
- An able swimmer
- A clean boat operator's licence or similar credentials.
- Ability to do minor repairs on a 40 hp outboard engine.
- Ability to remain calm under stress
- Well groomed and presentable at all times.
Responsibilities:
- Assure safety of guest on the boat at all times.
- Assure the boat is well maintained and fuelled for each trip and the engine is in good working condition
- Plan and execute timely servicing of the boat including the engine.
- Be observant to guests' needs and react on them promptly and adequately
- Be well groomed and presentable at all times while at the duty station.
- Assist and assure guests and their luggage embark and disembark safely
- Bill the guests according to the set out procedures and assure records are kept in accordance with procedures.
- Solve minor guest complaints or problems independently
- Maintain proper cleanliness of the boat and the landing sites at all times.
- To achieve team efforts and results flexibility will be requested in performing other duties not in your contract to enhance optimum service levels
