Accounts Assistants – African Union

Job Title: Accounts Assistants
Grade:
GSA5
Supervisor: Relevant Finance Officers
Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Directorate: Directorate of Programming, Budgeting, Finance and  Accounting
Job Purpose: Under the supervision of the Finance Officers, the Assistant Accountants shall assist in the management and monitoring of AUC finances. Functions shall include helping to set up and maintain a professional system of financial accounting, records keeping and reporting to ensure an effective and transparent administration of funds.
Major duties and responsibilities:
The major duties and responsibilities of the Finance Expert are as follows:
  • Classifying, coding and posting of  transactions into the Accounting Software;
  • Analyzing accounts and establishing correct balances;
  • Verifying the correctness and completeness of supplier invoices, contracts and orders before entering into the Accounting Software;
  • Assist in proper processing of fund transactions and in financial reports preparation, both  partners and for AUC management;
  • Assist in process of ensuring that fund disbursements are made for expenditures indicated in the budget/work plan for executing programmes/projects as specified.
  • Assist in budget drafting, monitoring and control.;
  • Perform any other relevant duty/ responsibility assigned.
Qualification and Experience Requirement
A minimum of a recognized college Diploma and/or equivalent technical qualification in Accounting, Finance or other directly related disciplines.
Work Experience
At least 3 years of responsible practical experience (two of which must have been spent in a supervisory position) in Accounting, Finance and budgeting in a major Government, International or public sector organization.
Other relevant skills:-
  • Financial management and analytical skills in a Donor funded environment;
  • Good interpersonal, report writing and communication skills;
  • Excellent computer skills with practical knowledge of and experience in accounting softwares.
Language Requirement
  • Proficiency in one of the African Union working languages is a requirement;
  • Knowledge of one or more of the other AU working languages would be an added advantage.
Tenure of Appointment
The appointment shall be for an initial period of two (2) years, the first six (6) months of which shall be on probation. It shall be renewable subject to performance and availability of funds.

Remuneration:
The salary attached to the position is an annual lump-sum of US$ 46,264.16 inclusive of all allowances for internationally recruited staff, and US$ 20,337.75 inclusive of all allowances for locally recruited staff.
