Our client, Diakonia Sweden, seeks to recruit a dynamic, innovative and results driven Finance Officer. The position will be based in the Regional Office of Diakonia Sweden in Nairobi.
Reporting to the Finance and Administration Manager, the individual will be responsible for Finance Officers in West Africa Country Offices in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Mali and Burkina Faso.
The overall purpose of the job is to provide leadership and support in financial management in respect of the specific Country Programme.
Major Responsibilities:

Major Responsibilities:
- Oversee & support finance & administrative function in West Africa Country Offices
- Ensure continuous coaching & mentoring of the country office line staff in financial management that include accounting records management, risk controls and reporting.
- Review & manage finance & administration systems in West Africa Country Offices.
- Budgeting & budgetary control in respect of programme/projects.
- Ensure the preparation of timely & accurate financial reports to users - managers, auditors and donors.
- Review and analyze financial reports & advise the programme/project manager on disbursements to country offices & partners as appropriate & manage the process of disbursement of funds.
- Manage grants & ensure compliance with specific & general grant requirements.
- Safeguard Diakonia assets within the Country Offices
- Promptly file returns to the relevant Government authorities as per each country’s legal requirement.
- Coordinate audits for the Country Offices & programmes & projects in West Africa.
- Maintain correct, accurate & up to date periodic financial records & ensure prompt submission of the reports.
- The job demands sufficient knowledge of Diakonia financial Policies and procedures to be able to ensure compliance with established regulations. Also, initiative and innovation to improve efficiency and performance.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Has at least a Bachelors degree in Commerce, Business or Finance oriented discipline majoring in Accounting
- Has a minimum professional qualification of CPA (K) or equivalent.
- Has at least three years experience in a busy accounts office with an international NGO.
- Able to maintain accounting records and prepare, analyze and interpret financial reports.
- Possess working knowledge of computerized accounting and application packages.

- Able to work with minimal supervision and meet strict deadlines.
- Good interpersonal skills and multicultural orientation and ability to relate to people of diverse backgrounds.
- Proficient communication in both oral and written English and French languages.
