Horticulturist Job Opportunity in Kenya

A community based group organization in Meru North District seeks to fill a contract for a horticulturist.

The successful applicant will work with a women’s group to demonstrate new crops and develop food security as part of a project.

Contract term is to March 2011 with possibility of extension.

Desired qualifications:-
  • A degree in horticulture or agriculture.
  • At least three years directly related work experience undertaking community work and agriculture,
  • Computer / internet knowledge necessary
  • Ability to work independently, a creative thinker and planner with excellent interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities:-
  • Planning, coordination and execution of project activities.
  • Preparation and submission of project reports.
  • Support and guide the group with crop development and marketing.
  • Facilitate a participatory community based monitoring and evaluation of project activities and organize relevant training.
  • Network with relevant organizations.
  • Arrange for the procurement of materials needed by the project.
  • Provide guidance to the group on book keeping and accounts
