SENIOR SCIENCE WRITER - IFAKARA HEALTH INSTITUTE

INTRODUCTION
Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) is a non-for profit research and training institute whose mission is to develop and sustain a district-based health research and resource centre capable of generating new knowledge and relevant information for public health policy and actions. IHI is among the leading health research institutes in Africa and was awarded the prestigious 2008 Prince of Asturias Award for International Cooperation.


KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A person in this position will write and edit scientific publications generated from within and out of lfakara Health Institute. Specifically, the Senior Science Writer will:
• Facilitate the process of translating, packaging, and communicating policy relevant, cross-site research findings in support of improved health and social policy and practice.
PROFILE
Strong communication research and analytical skills and ability to rapidly analyze and integrate diverse Information from various sources; Up-to-date knowledge of current topics and issues and ability to identify public opportunities and risks in an international environment; Thorough knowledge and understanding of, and experience in, international health and dealing with the media.
Highly developed communication (spoken, presentation) skills, including the ability to produce a variety of written communication productions in a clear and concise style.
Able to develop clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies; Identify priorities and adjust, as required;
Allocate appropriate time and resources to complete work, allowing for contingencies.


QUALIFICATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE


Must have a four year Bachelor's degree in life science related subjects (preference will be given to human health science subjects).
Candidate must have a good command of the English language as well as MS Office Programs.
At least 5 years experience in scientific article writing and/or publishing.


REMUNERATION
Attractive and competitive remuneration package will be offered to the right candidate.


MODE OF EMPLOYMENT
One year contract which may be renewable depending on performance
