INFORMATION OFFICER (1 POST) - IFAKARA HEALTH INSTITUTE

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Information officer will assist the Head of the Information and Communications Unit to:-
Write, update and disseminate fact sheets, press releases, and other informational materials; and Manage IHI Public Relations efforts, including press conferences, press releases, and media relations. Manage IHl's publications from idea to publication;
Proof read or edit presentations, proposals, reports, web text, and other documents; Identify, generate media presentation and manage content for inclusion on IHI's website; PartiCipate in communication and policy forum with IHI members and partners;
Develop advocacy and communication strategies to position and promote IHI and specific IHI projects; Develop talking points and other media/policymaker briefing materials;
Assist members in planning and identifying resources for community outreach;
Assess regularly the communication needs of IHI members and provide advice on how to address those needs.
Work With project leaders to gather information necessary for tracking project implementation status and findings as a source for relevant write ups (leaflets. update folder summaries etc)
Strong communication and analytical skills and ability to rapidly analyze and integrate diverse information from various sources; Proven ability In news gathering, writing and editing to very tight deadlines;
Highly developed communication (spoken, presentation) skills, including the ability to produce a variety of written communication productions in a clear ~nd conCise style.
Allocate appropriate time and resources to complete work, allowing for contingencies. Excellent editorial judgment
Encourages a positive rather than negative viewpoint.
QUALIFICATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
University degree (Bachelor degree or equivalent) in communications, journalism, public relations or related fields. A science background and knowledge of health systems or health policy will be assets for the position.
At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in journalism, communications or public relations, including experience at the international level.
REMUNERATION
Attractive and competitive remuneration package will be offered to the right candidate.
MODE OF EMPLOYMENT
One year contract which may be renewable depending on performance
