The Academic Model Providing Access To Health Care (AMPATH) is a project under the auspices of Moi University School of Medicine and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital whose aim is to provide sustainable efforts in HIV Prevention and Care. Besides the MTRH site, AMPATH also runs satellite clinics at 18 outreach sites in Rift Valley, Nyanza & Western provinces.
Applications are invited from qualified candidates for the following vacant position in the AMPATH Program.
POSITION: System Engineer / Java Programmer
POSITION PURPOSE
Job responsibilities will include working with the Medical Informatics group at AMPATH to design, develop, and modify Java-based applications.
A major responsibility will be to design and create PDA-based Java programs, and to develop applications on top of OpenMRS (www.openmrs.org) software. He/she will be responsible for installing software applications and operating systems under predetermined guidelines, as well as monitoring, testing, and troubleshooting existing application systems. This individual will also play a leadership role in building a core team of Java programmers at AMPATH.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Informatics team, the incumbent will among others be responsible for the following:-
- Designing programs, testing, implementing and troubleshooting assigned systems
- Assisting with health information analysis documentation upon request
- Assisting with effective interface of assigned systems with other systems
- Implementing algorithms to integrate with existing and emerging systems
- Assisting with security support for assigned systems
- Ensuring proper day-to-day operation of the computer equipment, including back-up, crash recovery, and hardware maintenance
- Intermediate or Advanced Java Programming Skills
- Working knowledge and experience with Subversion, Spring, Hibernate, and SQL
- Awareness of basic concepts, practices and procedures in programming, systems development and software engineering (including but not limited to object-oriented techniques and languages, database principles and programming and open-source methodologies)
- Experience with OpenMRS development (www.openmrs.org) including at least one patch successfully reviewed and applied to OpenMRS core code
- Demonstrated ability to lead a programming-based project
- Aptitude to learn clinical processes and clinical terminology
- Bachelor's degree in Information System or related field
- Two years of related work experience in information systems or programming is required.
The successful candidate will be employed on a 1 -year renewable contract terms with a competitive salary and allowances.
