Managing Trustee Career Opportunity: National Social Security Fund (NSSF)

The position to be advertised is that of Managing Trustee of the National Social Security Fund, one of the largest public funds in Kenya.

The Duties and Responsibilities are:-

As the Fund's Managing Trustee, the holder will be responsible for the day to day running of the Fund under the direction of the Board of Trustees of the NSSF to achieve the Fund's objectives as set out in the NSSF Act.

The Managing Trustee shall receive guidance and direction from the Board of Trustees. This shall be done by formulating a clear strategy and setting agreed tasks and targets which shall be reviewed with the Board on a regular basis.The Managing Trustee will therefore provide the leadership, motivation and guidance to ensure that staff are motivated and focused in achieving the targets agreed with the Board.

More specifically the job will carry the following responsibilities:

  1. Develop and recommend to the Board the long-term strategy, business plans, annual plans and annual operating budgets and establish proper internal monitoring and control systems and procedures.
  2. Coordinate and prepare business related proposals, reports and other submissions for consideration by the Board.
  3. Ensure that there is effective communication between the Management and the Board, between different levels of Management as well as between the Fund and the Government.
  4. Performance Management: Ensure constant cost effective and efficient improvements in the quality and value of services and products provided by the Fund.
  5. Ensure continuous achievement of the Fund's financial and operating goals and objectives, and oversee and ensure implementation of the corporate policies and programmes and cost effective management of resources,
  6. Maintain a conducive work environment to attract, retain and motivate employees, and foster a corporate culture that promotes ethical practices and good corporate citizenship.
  7. Implement the policy objectives of the NSSF.
  8. Implement the policy reform objectives of the NSSF.
The Minimum Qualifications are
  1. The ideal candidate will be in the age bracket of 40 years to 50 years.
  2. First Degree in any one of insurance, law, accounting, actuarial science, economics, banking, finance or their equivalent.
  3. Masters degree in a commercial, management or equivalent field.
  4. Minimum ten (10) years experience, five (5) of which must have been in a senior management position in an organization of a similar size or complexity. Experience in matters relating directly to pensions and administration of schemes such as service provider, fund manager or administration will be an added advantage.
  5. Proven leadership and entrepreneurial skills, change management and strategic planning expertise and good interpersonal and analytical skills.
  6. Proven experience with management of an organization of the size and complexity of the NSSF.
  7. Knowledge of IT essential.
  8. Knowledge of social security will be an added advantage.
