Human Resource Assistant

The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) is supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), generates science-based knowledge about the complex role that trees play in agricultural landscapes and uses its research to ensure that policies and practices benefit the poor and the environment. Our vision is an 'agroforestry transformation' in the developing world—a massive increase in the use of trees on landscapes by smallholder rural households to ensure security in food, nutrition, income, health, shelter and energy, and a regenerated environment. Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) conducts research in 23 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

The position: Human Resource Assistant (2 positions)

The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) is recruiting for the positions of Human Resources Assistant to be based at its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. One position will report directly to the Head of Human Resources Unit while the other will report to a Human Resources Specialist.

The role will be to provide HR administrative and operational support within the HRU and frontline customer service to all ICRAF staff and Hosted Institutions that require access to HRU services. The successful applicant’s duties will include supporting the Head of HR and two HR Specialists in Recruitment, Selection and Induction processes, HR Information Systems, Compensation and Benefits, Training and Development, Performance Management, Employee Relations and Workforce Planning.

The successful applicant will have:

  • A Higher National Diploma in Human Resource Management.
  • 3 years work experience in a busy office providing administrative support to a team.
  • Knowledge of HRM systems and policies
  • IT competent in MS Office and email and internet utility
  • Experience with solid Human Resource Management Information System
  • Ability to demonstrate strong planning, tracking, administrative, written and oral skills
  • A professional and flexible approach to work, with the ability to prioritise.
  • Experience of delivering strong customer service
  • Ability to communicate with and influence staff, peers, senior managers and leadership.
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Good interpersonal and listening skills
  • Ability to take initiative and think outside the box

ICRAF offers an internationally competitive salary and benefits package, and a collegial and gender-sensitive working environment. The position is for an initial period of three (3) years, subject to a nine (9) month probation period, assessment of performance and availability of resources.
