Senior Fraud Officer

We are pleased to announce the following vacancy within the Risk and Strategy Division. In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below

SENIOR FRAUD OFFICER
REF: RS – SFO – DEC08

Reporting to the Fraud Manager, the person will be responsible for ensuring that the Company complies with international and domestic AML legislation and regulations and promote adherence to internal AML policies and procedures. Ensuring controls are in place to prevent the use of MPESA service by criminals to launder money, fund terrorism or commit other crime.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise the business on appropriate level of controls to meet international and domestic legal and regulatory requirements;
  • Ensure full AML compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements;
  • Maintain an expert knowledge of current AML regulations, legislation requirements, as well as future developments within the AML field;
  • Assess the effectiveness of the AML watch list screening programme;
  • Assess the effectiveness and develop the AML transaction monitoring programme;
  • Assess the effectiveness of AML Suspicious Activity Reporting programme;
  • Make recommendations on how all AML systems and controls can be strengthened;
  • Develop and maintain an effective training program across the company;
  • Carry out annual AML risk assessments and ensure management of high risk areas and make recommendations to mitigate risks identified;
  • Where controls fail, investigate and report incidents and / or suspicions to appropriate law enforcement agencies and Safaricom’s senior management.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or Law from a recognized university.
  • 3 years experience in AML preferably from the Banking industry with a bias and a good understanding of AML;
  • AML certification;
  • Certification in accountancy CPA or ACCA;
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office Applications:
  • Excellent communication, analytical and report writing skills
  • Attention to detail and results oriented individual;
  • Must have the ability to work within strict deadlines with limited supervision
