Consequently, the Save the Children Sweden Eastern and Central Africa regional programme is at present, and for the coming years, undergoing a major transition process to prepare for the integration of resources and programmes into the new international Save the Children structure.
The Save the Children Sweden Eastern and Central Africa Regional office is now looking for suitable candidates to fill the following positions.
Regional Child Protection Manager
Reporting to the Regional Director for Eastern and Central Africa and based in Nairobi Kenya, you will be responsible for further developing and strengthening the work under the Child Protection programme and facilitating an effective transition into the future joint programme structure of Save the Children in the region.
Specifically you will:
- Support the development of quality and results of Save the Children Sweden’s work in Child Protection, through the development of thematic competence, provision of technical expertise, proposal development, resource-mobilisation, and improved measures for programme implementation
- Develop and manage knowledge on Child Protection issues which are relevant for the region as a strategy to strengthen programming and staff capacity
- Support the harmonisation of Save the Children’s Child Protection programmes throughout the region, promoting a rights-based approach throughout the process
- Support the design and implementation of child protection advocacy strategies at regional and country level
- Ensure that monitoring and evaluation as well as reporting of Child Protection programmes and projects is carried out on time and in line with internal and external requirements
- Represent Save the Children Sweden regionally on Child Protection issues to donors, partners, UN agencies, international organisations and local authorities, among others.
In addition, to:
- hold a university degree in Law, Sociology, Development Studies or related fields; or verifiable equivalent professional experience
- have a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in managing Child Protection programmes with relevant experience in implementing human rights, child rights or development programmes, ideally in fields related to child protection in Development and Emergency contexts
- have experience in decision making and management
- have at least 2 years’ experience working internationally
- have good communications, facilitation, advocacy, strategic thinking and analytical skills
- be able to travel regularly.
As the Pan African Child Rights Advocacy Officer you will report to the Child Rights Governance Thematic Manager, based in Nairobi Kenya. You will be responsible for developing and implementing Save the Children Sweden’s support to child rights advocacy at the African continental level.
Specifically, you will:
- develop a Pan-African Child Rights Governance advocacy plan for Save the Children Sweden, in line with Save the Children’s Africa Advocacy Strategy for 2010 – 2015
- design and carry out advocacy initiatives which contribute to achieving Save the Children Sweden programme goals and results
- take initiative in identifying funding opportunities, developing project proposals and developing any other documents needed to support resource mobilisation for the implementation of regional and Pan-African child rights advocacy work
- as the Save the Children Sweden’s representative participate in the Save the Children Technical Advisory Team (TAT) for the Save the Children Africa Advocacy Advisor based in Ethiopia
- advise and build the capacity of relevant regional and national colleagues on how to best integrate Child Rights Governance advocacy into their respective thematic and country programmes.
- University degree in Law, Sociology, Development Studies or related fields, or verifiable equivalent professional experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in implementing human rights, child rights or development and advocacy programmes at international level
- Proven experience in advocating for human or child rights at regional and/or international levels, preferably in Africa
- Minimum experience of 2 years substantially working from a regional perspective
- Excellent spoken and written English. Working knowledge of any other African Union language will be considered an additional asset
- Highly organised, able to travel regularly, and open for possible relocation to Addis Ababa.
