Essential Requirement
- Diploma or Higher Diploma in Community Health Nursing or its equivalent.
- Must be Fluent in English, Luo and Kiswahili.
- Minimum of 2 years of direct patient contact, direct clinical care at ANC and to infants
- Basic computer skills
- Must live in Asembo near Lwak Mission Hospital.
Desired Qualities
- Previous research experience with GCP training would be an added advantage.
- Experience in the delivery ward would be an added advantage
- Experience using PDAs or Net-Books
- Excellent social, interpersonal, communication and listening skills; open minded and non-judgmental; well organized
- Ability to work independently as well as an active member of the team
- Be flexible to work within the existing structure.
Position description: Nurses will report to the field Coordinator and hospital supervisor and will carry out clinical/nursing duties and data collection for the study.
Specific Duties and responsibilities:

- Consent study participants and take medical histories, perform physical exams during screening and enrollment.
- Perform ultrasound to determine gestational age of study participant and conduct 1st ANC visit.
- To attend to study participants for delivery at health facility.
- Follow up pregnancy outcomes in the field, conduct interviews with the women and perform newborn examinations.
- To accurately and completely fill out all study forms on Net-books or PDAs.
- Establish good links with the traditional birth attendants (TBAs) in the study area
- Arrange two-weekly meetings with the TBAs
- Helps ensure good communication, quality and timely completion of study activities, including problem identification and problem solving.
- Keep records and check study forms for completeness and accuracy each day.
- Develop an in-depth understanding of the study case definitions, procedures, design and goals.
- Respond to questions about the study posed by participants and others.
- Report problems encountered in the field to the supervisor.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the management.
Terms of Employment: A fixed term two and a half (2.5) renewable annual contract as per the KEMRI scheme of service and a Probation period for the first 3 months.
Remuneration: Compensation is negotiable within a relevant grade, based on educational levels, relevant experience and demonstrated competency. The salary scheme is based on the KEMRI scales plus supplemental amounts.
