BRANCH CREDIT OFFICER

JOB PURPOSE:

Manage and execute the approval process, including cycle time (ready for approval to disbursement) and quality of approval process. Give timely feedback to loan officer for all loans, whether approved or declined.

Implement and monitor the credit collection process and fraud policy. Follow-up with loan officers and customers in a timely manner to ensure that arrears are collected in the shortest possible time. Ensure that delinquent loans are handed over for legal collection in a timely manner. Work closely with legal counsel to ensure that delinquent loans are collected.

DUTIES:

• Receives all business credit applications from loan officers and ensures that approval process is completed.

• Evaluation of business credit applications in terms of product business rules and company credit criteria in a timely and efficient manner for the purpose of making an approve/decline decision.

• Meet with applicants (borrow roo information regarding e oan app ication answer questions regarding the approval process.

o visit the customer's business and home;

o understand the nature and scale of a customer's business operations;

o meet the prospective customer and assess hislher willingness to abide by the terms of the loan;

o verify that the loan application and customer operations satisfy the business rule requirements for the loan product;

o verify the customer's financial and other information recorded in the application against the business source records;

o discuss the business plan with the customer to understand its profitability and viability; and

o conduct character assessment interviews with people who know the applicant to determine their honesty and reliability;

o analyze and make jUdgments about the applicants financial status, credit-worthiness and collateral and or other forms of security to determine the feasibility of granting a loan;

o ensure that loans are granted only to customers where there is sufficient evidence to support the application.

o Ensure that the application has been correctly captured on the system before approving.

o Ensure that the correct process is followed where loans require approval of a higher committee such as Branch Approval Committee or National Approval Committee.

o Ensure that the contract signed by the customer contains correct information and is legally enforceable.

• Responsible for maintaining the integrity of the \ credit information and ensuring that all information is correct.

• Responsible for final approvalldecline of applications and reporting approval progress.

• Provide on-the-job training and coaching to loan officers in respect of the credit applications they submit.

• Contributing to the setting of credit assessment criteria in the light of collections performance and providing recommendations to enhance the product and credit assessment criteria.

• Adhere and exceed company expectations regarding the collection of installments and

o Monitor the daily reports to identify new customers falling into arrears

o Work with the loan officer to ensure that these customers are followed up in a timely manner within the parameters set for follow up.

o Keep a detailed record of customers that are in I the collection process and the actions that have been taken and the actions required to be taken on specific dates.

o Ensure that all actions (PTP's, reminders, letters of demand, etc) are issued on the required dates in accordance with the collection process.

o Ensure that customers are handed over in accordance with the collection process where the customer falls to payor exhibits adverse payment behavior.

• In conjunction with branch managers, ensure the safe-keeping of contract and security documents.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Senior Certificate

Computer Literate

Minimum 3 Years experience in a financial industry I with previous experience in business credit assessment being very advantageous Good communication and interpersonal skills.
