Site Supervisors - KEMRI/CDC Research and Public Health Collaboration

Program description: This program is collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) whose mission is to conduct research and program evaluation in malaria, HIV and other diseases.

Due to its continued growth, the Malaria Branch has the following vacancies to fill in its new study based in Asembo, Rarieda district.

Essential Requirements
  • O-Level KCSE Grade C- or equivalent
  • Experience working in a research project
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English and Swahili
  • Ability to speak Dholuo
  • Good organizational skills

  • Be a community leader within the study area
  • Courteous, proactive, hardworking and have excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to engage and interview patients
  • Ability to coordinate follow-up appointments)

Job Description

The Site Supervisors will report to the Field Coordinator and the Study Coordinator and will assist with the fieldwork and communication with the local traditional attendants and study nurse, as well as with community sensitization.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Site Supervisor’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Conduct community sensitization
  • Assist with participant enrolment
  • Act as liaison between the TBAs and the field coordinator and nurses
  • Coordinate weekly meetings with all TBAs in study area
  • Interact with field coordinator, study coordinator and study nurses
  • Coordinate participant appointments and assist with patient tracking to ensure regular follow-up
  • Respond to questions about the study posed by participants and others.
  • Report problems encountered in the field to the field coordinator.
  • Attend all required study meetings on time and provide regular reports on progress of work
  • Observe confidentiality agreements with participants
  • Perform any other duties assigned by management
Terms of Employment: A fixed term Two and a half years (2.5) annual renewable contract as per the KEMRI scheme of service. The first 3 months is a probation period.

Remuneration: Compensation is negotiable within a relevant grade, based on educational levels, relevant experience and demonstrated competency. The salary scheme is based on the KEMRI scales plus supplemental amounts.
