Health Facility Recorder - KEMRI/CDC Research & Public Health Collaboration

Program description: This program is a collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention whose remit is to conduct research in malaria, HIV and other diseases.

Due to its continued growth, the Malaria Branch has vacancies for a new study based in Asembo, Rarieda district.

Position: Health Facility Recorder (MR 4, Job Group G)
Location: Asembo, Rarieda District

Reports to: Hospital Supervisor

Essential Requirement
  • Minimum O level education grade C or its equivalent
  • Experience in conducting interviews at the community level.
  • Proficiency in oral and written English and Swahili languages
  • Good spoken knowledge of Dholuo language
  • Good computer skills
  • Ability to write brief reports and keep records
  • Must be willing to work on holidays and weekends, as required
Desired qualities
  • Undertaken GCP
  • Experience using Personal Digital Assistants/PDAs (hand held computer)or Net- books
  • Flexibility to adapt to field conditions
  • Team player, courteous, respectful, proactive, conscientious, punctual, honest and hardworking
  • Residents and persons having worked in Asembo
Position description: The successful applicant will join a team of researchers working on a study on pregnancy and will be based in Asembo, Rarieda District. They will receive training on the use of Net-books and/or PDAs and will interview pregnant women presenting at the health facilities.

Major responsibilities:
  • Record attendance information using PDA or Net-book computer.
  • Resolve all the discrepancies in data collected together with the supervisor.
  • Keep accurate records of participant attendance.
  • Report all problems encountered to the supervisor, including use of PDAs/Net-book or with study participants.
  • Attend all the meetings on time and report on progress of work.
  • Adhere strictly to the project deadlines for completion of duties assigned.
  • To respect and adhere to the instructions given by the supervisor.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the management.
Terms of Employment: A fixed two and a half (2.5) years annual renewable contract.
Probation period for the first 3 months.

Remuneration: Compensation is negotiable within a relevant grade, based on educational levels, relevant experience and demonstrated competency. The salary scheme is based on the KEMRI scales plus supplemental amounts.
