Essential Requirements
- Diploma or Higher Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, IMIS, Statistics or equivalent.
- Minimum one year working experience with Microcomputer on Relational Databases preferably in a research set-up
- Ability to design and develop data-entry screen using Visual basic/Access
- Excellent data management skills
- Experience in teaching and supervision of data-entry
- Ability to write short reports
Desirable Skills:
- Problem solving ability
- Good working experience of relational databases especially MS-SQL
- Ability to run validation checks in data
- Proficiency in English both written and oral.
- Experience in using a networked and web-based databases
- Experience in database administration using Microsoft SQL server
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and problem solving ability
- Ability to work well with the public and in a team
- Ability to collaborate with counterparts.
- Experience in database design and management using statistical packages (MS-SQL, MS-Access, SPSS, SAS)especially for a research set-up
Exercise of Judgment:
- Must use good judgment in making decisions and to keep to protocol as much as possible.
- Report any necessary variations from the protocol to the study supervisor.
- Must be careful to avoid breeching confidentiality agreements with participants, and be able to interact diplomatically with counterparts and the public.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop data entry screens for net-books and PDAs
- Charging and doing trouble shooting of net-books
- Backing up data from net-books
- Ensuring appropriate uploading of data from net-books to the servers
- Deal with routine problems or issues that arise in the course of handling of net-books and data
- Produce daily and weekly work progress reports
- Clean data using reports generated by Data Manager
- Develop an in-depth understanding of the data management process and the data being managed.
- Participate in the design of data management procedures to achieve optimal efficiency and quality.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Terms of Employment: A fixed 2 and a half (2.5) annual renewable contract as per as per KEMRI scheme of service. Probation period for the first 3 months.
Remuneration: Compensation is negotiable within a relevant grade, based on educational levels, relevant experience and demonstrated competency.
The salary scheme is based on the KEMRI scales plus supplemental amounts.
