Job Description: Assistant Livelihoods Advisor Position
(ACORD — Pan African Agriculture Programme)

Department: Pan African Programme

Location: ACORD Headquarters, Nairobi, Kenya

Responsible to: Pan African Livelihoods Policy Advisor

Job Purpose: Under the supervision of the Pan African Livelihoods Policy Advisor, the Assistant Livelihoods Advisor is responsible for providing coordination and implementation support to the food sovereignty and livelihoods thematic programme in line with ACORD Strategic Plan, the Pan Africa Programme and the programming guidelines.

S/he will provide technical and methodological support to ACORD’s country and area programmes across Africa in relation to food sovereignty and livelihoods policy advocacy work at Pan- African level through research, partnership and alliance building.

S/he will contribute toward cross-learning and knowledge generation for thematic alignment in relation to ACORD’s food sovereignty and livelihoods strategic priorities across the organization.

Specific Responsibilities

The duties will include:
  • Assist the Pan Africa Livelihood Advisor to provide technical backstopping to ACORD’s Livelihood & Food Sovereignty programme, with particular emphasis in Kenya, Mali, Burkina Faso and Cameroon;
  • Support coordination and smooth implementation of the ACORD - Pan African Agriculture Project for Kenya Programme;
  • Support coordination, timely preparation and delivery of project reports and documents to the donors;
  • Network and establish linkages with Pan African stakeholders in the food sovereignty and livelihoods sector, including policy decision makers, inter-governmental institutions, women’s rights organizations, farmer and pastoralist organizations and networks among others;
  • Reporting all matters of the Livelihoods and Food Sovereignty Programme to the Pan African Policy Advisor
  • Any other duty as may be assigned by the Pan Africa Livelihood Advisor.
Required Competencies:
  • Be a university graduate preferably in the field of agricultural economics, agricultural science, economics, sociology or any other relevant field;
  • Have good understanding of agricultural policies, public policy analysis and policy advocacy. Knowledge of continental policy frameworks (e.g. CAADP) will be an added advantage;
  • Be proficient in English and French both written and spoken;
  • Have at least 5 years experience in managing agricultural projects, particularly, multi-country projects;
  • Should be dynamic and willing to work under pressure.
