Job Title: Medical Doctor
Duty Station: Kurmuk, South Sudan
Reports To: Medical Director
SUMMARY
Samaritan’s Purse (SP) has been serving in Kurmuk, Blue Nile State since 2002, supporting the work in Kurmuk Hospital. Besides the daily running of the hospital, SP is also involved in carrying out trainings for Nursing Aides and midwives / TBAs at the hospital. The hospital being the only secondary care provider in the region receives a lot of referrals from the entire Blue Nile area. Some of the patients in Kurmuk come from across the border – Ethiopia. The workload is intensive and requires a team of dedicated health professionals to meet the ever increasing demand for specialized medical care at the hospital. SP is therefore seeking to hire a Medical Doctor to assist in the medical and surgical care of the patients in Kurmuk hospital. The Medical Doctor will be supervised by the hospital’s Medical Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- In charge of the overall delivery of care at the hospital including pediatric, obstetric / gynecological, medical and surgical care.
- Responsible for daily ward rounds; as frequent as the patients’ conditions demand.
- Assist with out-patient clinic after the ward rounds. Must review all cases for admission and write out pre-admission instructions.
- Available for calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- Offer hands – on clinical instruction to nurses during ward rounds and in surgery.
- Must be available to assist the nurses with difficult procedures.
- May be called upon to offer classroom lectures to the nurses and or midwives as need arises.
- Participate in the annual work plan and budget development process.
QUALIFICATIONS
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
· MBCHB degree in Medicine from a recognized University; post graduate degree in internal medicine / surgery would be an added advantage.
· Must have a minimum working experience of three years post-internship in resource–poor settings.
· Proficient in basic Office packages and Internet.
· Willing to abide by Samaritan’s Purse Christian beliefs.
· Willing to live in South Sudan for 10 weeks or more before coming out on R&R.
· Able to lead and encourage teamwork among staff at the hospital.
· Preferably a Sudanese national.
· Able to communicate in Sudanese Arabic language.
