Eastern African Sub-regional Support Initiative for the Advance¬ment of Women (EASSI), is a women’s organization established to facilitate follow-up of the implementation of the Global and African Platforms for Action within the Eastern African Sub-region. It focuses on the enhancement of gender equity and social justice through networking, research, capacity building and advocacy for women. EASSI is looking to fill the following vacant positions at its Secretariat in Kampala, Uganda.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced can¬didates to fill the following positions: EASSI’s mandate covers eight countries namely, Burundi, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Tanzania and Uganda.
1. Program Officer Women’s Rights and Gender Equality
2. Programme Officer Reproductive Health
The Program Officers should have an African Feminist Orientation and will report to the Executive Director.
The Program Officers will take charge of all the organization’s programming and advocacy work in relation to the program areas and ensure delivery of outputs as laid out in the Strategic Plan and Annual work plans.
We are looking for women whose competencies will include:
1. Identifying opportunities for influencing policy in the sub region
2. Ability to be timely and proactive
3. Ability to mobilize coalitions and alliances to react to and partici¬pate in development debates in the region.
4. Be able to galvanize collective action at national and regional levels
5. Ability to enhance the image and profile of EASSI
6. Ability to mobilize funds for the programme

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Programme development, implementation and monitoring
• Advocacy and lobby in the specific programme area
• Monitoring and evaluation in the specific programme area
• Building effective networks with all EASSI stakeholders at national, regional and international levels
• Resource mobilization
• Ensure production and delivery of high quality programmatic outputs

Job Requirement/Person Specification
The positions require individuals who possess the following key qualities:
● Knowledgeable about the status of women and rights based programming
● Creative and self driven
● Outstanding analytical and writing skills
● Demonstrate an understanding of African Feminism and com¬mitment to promotion of women
● High level of competence
● Ability to orally communicate ideas and opinions to others in a comprehensible manner
● Ability to put ideas and opinions clearly and comprehensively in writing;
● High degree of maturity and integrity
● Good interpersonal skills; team building and management skills
● Result & Team Oriented.
● Excellent command of spoken and written English.
● Gender analysis skills
● Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision
● Effective use of time and other resources to achieve results
● Proficiency in the use of computers
● Can work in a multi cultural environment
Working knowledge of French will be an added advantage

Person Specifications:

Qualifications: A Masters Degree in a relevant field such as gender and development, social sciences, development studies. Experience in national, regional or international networking and advocacy work. Proficiency in the use of ICT and Microsoft office package.

Experience: Minimum 3 years experience in a related field.

Type of Appointment: Three years renewable Contract
Location: Kampala, Uganda.
