United Nations Development Programme Kenya (UNDP) Team Leader Vacancy Announcement

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) IS UN’S global development organization. UNDP has a normative global mission as a pro-poor development agency to promote human rights, gender and the Millennium Development Goals.

UNDP Kenya would like to recruit a Team Leader (National Professional Officer Category, Grade NOC — ICS10) for its
Peace Building and Conflict Prevention Unit.

Background

Under the guidance and supervision of the Deputy Country Director Programme, the Team Leader acts as a manager
of and advisor to Senior Management on all aspects of the Peace Building and Conflict Prevention (PB/CP) Programme and manages the programme portfolio.

The main role is to manage the Peace Building and Conflict Prevention Programme including continued monitoring of implementation. The Team Leader leads the programme team in strategic planning and identifies new programme areas while ensuring consistency with the UN Development Assistance Framework and the Country Programme Action Plan (CPAP) priorities and creative responses to emerging challenges and opportunities.

Position Information

The Team Leader heads and supervises the Programme team and works in close collaboration with the Senior Peace
and Development Advisor, other team leaders, the Operations team, programme staff in other UN Agencies, UNDP
HQs staff and Government officials, technical advisors and experts, multi-lateral and bi-lateral donors and civil
society to successfully implement the Peace Building and Conflict Prevention Programme

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Economics, Political Sciences, Social Sciences or related field.
  • 5 years of relevant experience at the national or international level in providing management advisory services, hands-on experience in design, monitoring and evaluation of development projects and establishing inter-relationships among international organization and national governments.
  • Experience in conflict prevention and management, as well as negotiation mechanisms;
  • Experience in facilitating national dialogues and peace building processes, consensus-building and collaborative decision-making;
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct appropriate analyses, needs assessments and project formulation on peace building issues taking into account the local culture;
  • Ability to draft and edit analytical reports, strategy documents, project proposals, correspondence, briefings and speeches;
  • Sound knowledge of the UN System, practices and procedures would be an added advantage.
