Taifa Leo, a leading Kiswahili Newspaper published by the Nation Media Group, is seeking a result-oriented, dynamic, self-driven and experienced journalist to fill the position of News Editor.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Maintaining a diary of events for the Taifa desk;
- Assessing political, social and economic climate and anticipating likely developments for coverage;
- Briefing Taifa reporters and advising them on angles to take on a story;
- Guiding Taifa reporters and writers on coverage and writing of stories;
- Ensuring that Taifa reporters write stories and deliver them within the set deadlines;
- Reviewing stories to ensure they meet editorial objectives, house style and journalistic ethics;
- Monitoring, guiding and mentoring reporters and recommending areas for career growth; and
- Managing the Taifa reporters leave and shift schedules.
Knowledge and Skills requirements:
- University degree
- Postgraduate diploma in journalism;
- Minimum 5 years reporting experience
- Competence in Kiswahili language
- A solid record of integrity and professionalism;
- A good network of news sources
- Ability to manage a team of professionals
- Ability to work with minimum supervision and cope with the pressure and tight deadlines.
