WWF Kenya Country Office Project Officer - – Mara River Basin

WWF- The Global Conservation Organization, Kenya Country Office (WWF-KCO), is seeking to recruit a:

Project Officer – Mara River Basin Sustainable Forest and Water Resources Management Project to be based in Narok

Reporting to the Project Executant, the incumbent will work on full time basis to ensure that the project outputs and activities in his / her area of assignment are carried out as laid down in the project documents and are articulated to meet the laid down project objectives.

He or she must be willing to be based and travel extensively in the field.

Major duties include:
• gathering and collecting baseline data as well as developing baseline indicators for the outputs as stipulated in the project document;
• in consultation with the experts and stakeholders, identify the vulnerable and degraded areas of the forest and adjacent catchment and determine priorities areas of intervention and the appropriate conservation measures;
• using participatory approaches, develop a consensus based management plan for the project area;
• engage the government especially the forest department at policy level and other relevant stakeholders/partners and develop modalities of collaboration;
• take a lead role in the development and implementation of a monitoring protocol for the project;
• adherance to WWF’s technical and administrative requirements regarding the coordination and implementation of the workplans including timely preparation of technical reports and budgets;
• providing information for the quarterly organization’s Newsletter and Website, as well as working closely with the Communication Manager to generate articles for publication.

Required Qualifications and Experience
• A University degree related to Forest management, wildlife management, environmental management or related sciences;
• a minimum of 5 years working experience in environmental/natural resources science issues with specific background and experience in biodiversity and conservation efforts in the region.;
• a proven ability to work with abroad range of stakeholders in the field of conservation;
• ability to work effectively with local Civil Society Organisations and facilitating links between government and communities;
• good analytical, writing and communication experience and skills;
• a demonstrated fund raising and resource mobilization ability, and project implementation and management experience will be an added advantage;
• must have a good understanding of conservation initiatives, resource assessment at regional national & local level;
• addressing socioeconomic factors, resource threats impacting the landscape & key forest resources, and developing and implementing conservation plans;
• must be computer literate; a clean driving licence and ability to work in a team.
