Maji na Ufanisi NGO Jobs in Kenya- Programmes Director, Construction Qualify Assurance Supervisor, Community Mobiliser (2 positions), Information, Education and Communication Officer

Our client, Maji na Ufanisi is a non governmental organisation that works in partnership with local communities, government, donor agencies and the private sector to bring innovative water and environmental sanitation solutions to poor and disadvantaged people in Kenya.

Programmes Director

Reporting to the Executive Director, you will lead the change in consolidating a results driven programmes implementation.

You will be responsible for ensuring quality in programmes implementation to deliver demonstrably on time against committed objectives, strategies and results.

Specifically, you will:

* oversee the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of both the quantitative and qualitative aspects of water and sanitation programmes to ensure anticipated impact
* ensure timely and accurate programme reports internally and to funding partners
* ensure effective and timely programme communication and liaison with a wide variety of stakeholders and audiences including funding, beneficiary community and government partners; and implementing staff and other stakeholders
* take initiative in identifying resource mobilisation opportunities, including developing and following through project proposals
* establish and implement sustainable modalities of working closely with the Finance Department budgeting, implementation and reporting on different projects
* support the Executive Director, as port of the senior management team, providing leadership, supervision and guidance to staff on all programme matters.

The successful candidate must meet the following minimum requirements.

* A Masters degree in sociology, development or related discipline; and training in project management
* At least 8 years’ relevant experience in managing development programmes
* Demonstrable experience in budget development and programme design (including proposal development and resource mobilisation)
* Detailed practical understanding of programme performance - from concept to final evaluation. Specific previous responsibility for M&E and reporting will be an added advantage
* Good communication skills and ability to personally interact across from policy makers’ level to disadvantaged communities.

Construction Qualify Assurance Supervisor

Reporting to the Programmes Director, you will be responsible for keeping local water and environmental sanitation construction projects moving forward on tight time and cost budgets to ensure projects’ technical and all other standards are met.

You will plan, coordinate, recommend and follow up legal approvals for the construction designs and their implementation.

Your primary tasks will be to:

* ensure reliable and objective search, selection and ongoing ranking of the performance of building contractors
* negotiate with leasing contracting companies in order to get sufficient equipment and personnel necessary to complete the construction work in good time
* provide direction and day to day supervision to contractors, ensuring adherence to the set standards at the construction sites
* ensure that the construction work is completed in good time and that the set budget is adhered to
* work closely with the Community Development Department in order to ensure harmony and appropriate ownership in construction projects
* oversee safety, ensuring that all workers adhere to set safety and security standards
* generate reports and ensure records, timesheets, and invoices are submitted and approved by the internal and external construction authorities.

The successful candidate must have the following at a minimum.

* Diploma in Civil Engineering
* 4 years of relevant technical building and civil construction supervisory experience
* Excellent public relations and diverse work group mobilisation skills
* Strong project management planning, logistics and financial, operational reporting accountability experience
* Ability to issue clear directions and maintain construction site discipline
* Excellent self management and field work discipline.

Community Mobiliser (2 positions)

Reporting to the Community Development Coordinator, you will be responsible for providing local support to community based activities in project areas to ensure participation and community ownership of activities.

Your key tasks will be to:

* participate in the concept and proposals development of local strategies to improve access, participation and empowerment of communities in water and environmental sanitation services and information
* coordinate all activities of local implementing partners working with Maji na Ufanisi
* facilitate the capacity building of community based partners to take the lead in the planning, implementation and post-completion maintenance and management of their water and environmental sanitation projects towards wider community economic empowerment
* regularly monitor and report on field activities and performance of local implementing Partners, and provide action recommendations to senior management.

To be considered for this position, you must meet the following minimum requirements

* Diploma or Advanced Certificate in social science or community development
* At least 5 years’ community level experience in development work
* Provable Training of Trainers (ToT) skills
* Strong community mobilisation skills. Previous work among disadvantaged communities will be a strong added advantage
* Good interpersonal and communication skills
* Excellent self management and social field work discipline.

Information, Education and Communication Officer

You will report to the Programmes Director, and take personal responsibility for the development and dissemination of all information, education and communication (IEC) materials for general public and targeted audiences.

Specifically, you will:

* regularly liaise with the other Programme staff and take the lead in addressing all Programme IEC objectives within a suitable Maji no Ufanisi communication strategy
* facilitate information shoring among implementing partners and stakeholders
* take the lead in the development and dissemination of print, audio visual and web-based IEC materials including the quarterly Newsletter highlighting Maji na Ufanisi projects
* in liaison with other programme staff and especially the Research & Advocacy Officer, collect, and document success stories and their lessons learnt
* develop and update a database of key interests and contacts among the media, research, government and non government organisations for targeted knowledge and learning exchanges
* in collaboration with other Maji na Ufanisi programme and finance staff, establish an overall user-friendly Knowledge and Learning library and archive in support of the organisation’s work.

To be considered for this position, you must meet the following minimum requirements

* A Diploma in Communication, Journalism or similar field
* At least 3 years’ relevant experience of IEC within the Development sector
* Demonstrable skills in programme communication concept, strategy design, IEC material development, documentation and publication (in print, audio-visual and web-based)
* Demonstrable strengths in IEC dissemination and marketing communications
* Good oral and written communication skills through a variety of media
* Strong interpersonal and public presentation skills.
