UNDP Kenya seeks to recruit a National Project Manager for Kenya Adaptation to Climate Change in Arid Lands Project.
Background
The Project Manager (PM) is responsible for the management of the UNDP managed component of the joint UNDP-World Bank Kenya Adaptation to Climate Change in And Lands (KACCAL) project.
He/She will liaise with other adaptation and Global Environment Facility (GEF) projects in the African Region and co-ordinate closely with the Project Steering Committee, the Government of Kenya and UNDP Energy and Environment Unit.
The PM wil also provide administrative and technical assistance required by the project implementing partners and other parties involved in the project and provide coordination support to any activities taking place in the project site.
Qualifications
- A Master& degree in environmental management, agricultural science, meteorology and other related field
- Experience in drought management issues at the farm and polcy level.
- Knowledge of climate change, drought preparedness and mitigation and biodiversity issues.
- Familiarity with GEF guidelines/procedures inckiding logical framework, project development/management.
- A good understanding of development and environmentaL/agriculture or dimate issues in Kenya.
- Familiarity with the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, the UN Convention to Combat drought and desertification, and the UN Framework Convention on Dmate Change is desirable.
Experience
- At least 5 years of relevant work experience.
Reporting Relationship
The Project Manager will work under the guidance of the UNOP-CO project representative and report directly to the UNDP Country Office, Project focal point at the Government of Kenya and steering Committee.
Duration of Assignment
The total duration of this assignment is 4 (four) years. The successful applicant shaN be recruited on a contract for a period of one year, renewable, subject to performance and availability of funding.
Language Requirements
- Fluency in English is required. Fluency in Swahili would be an advantage.
