Membership to the two Positions in the Judicial Service Commission
(Article 171 and section 20(1), (2) & (3) of the Sixth Schedule of the New Constitution of Kenya)
1. The Law Society of Kenya, the statutory body responsible for the professional regulation of advocates is seeking Advocates who are citizens of Kenya with at least 15 years experience to the two positions in the Judicial Service Commission as provided in the new Constitution of Kenya.
The Advocates must be of high moral character, integrity and impartiality with the following attributes:
  • No record of criminal conviction by a court of law or pending criminal proceedings in any court of law,
  • Not declared bankrupt or facing bankruptcy proceedings in a court of law,
  • Has not been recommended for prosecution by the Attorney-General, the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission or any other appropriate authority,
  • Has not been convicted by the Law Society of Kenya Disciplinary Committee or have any pending disciplinary matter before the Law Society of Kenya Disciplinary Committee,
  • Has never been implicated in any corruption, professional and/or moral impropriety.
  • Not a member of the Committee of Experts appointed under the Constitution of Kenya Review Act, 2008.
2. Advocates interested in the positions should express their interest by submitting the following:
  • a letter of expression,
  • a detailed curriculum vitae with three referees,
  • copies of testimonials,
  • a copy of a current practicing certificate,
  • a Statutory Declaration attesting to the facts set out in Clause 1 above and demonstrating a track record of active participation in the Law Society of Kenya activities.
Short listed candidates will be made public for the purposes of vetting and thereafter to an election process to pick one woman and one man.
Take Notice that in accordance with Section 20(3) of the Sixth Schedule to the New Constitution, one of the Advocates appointed to the JSC shall serve for three years only.
