Area of responsibilities/description of the work
The Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) is a department at Karolinska Institutet and an interdisciplinary research institution within the broad field of environmental medicine. IMM conducts cutting edge research within the areas of environmental and occupational medicine, epidemiology, physiology, and toxicology. IMM also serves as a scientific advisor to public authorities within the area of environmental medicine and IMM scientists participate in national and international expert groups that conduct risk assessments or develop guidelines. IMM now aims to strengthen the science-based risk assessment activities in the department through the recruitment of a Post Doctoral Research Fellow, with placement at one of the 15 units in the department (for more information: ki.se/IMM).
The Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) has an opening for a Post Doctoral Research Fellow position (forskarassistent) to be placed within any of IMM’s research units. The successful candidate is expected to conduct high quality research with a clear relevance to environmental health risk assessment. The research will be done within the framework of the unit where the position is being placed although collaboration across units and multidisciplinary work are encouraged. A wide range of environmental factors of human health concern are addressed by researchers at IMM; see ki.se/IMM. However, other areas of relevance to environmental medicine and risk assessment are also possible.
Qualifications
To qualify, the applicant must hold a doctor’s degree or a foreign qualification deemed equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have completed their degree no more than five years before the last date for applications should be given priority. Candidates who have completed their degree earlier than this should receive equal priority if special grounds exist. Special grounds include leave of absence because of sickness, service in the total defence, positions of trust in trade union organisations and student organisations, parental leave and other similar circumstances. A total of two years can be added for the above reasons on presentation of written testimony.
A person who has been employed as an Postdoctoral Research Fellow for more than a total of three years may not be given other employment as Postdoctoral Reserach Fellow within the same or a similar subject area at the same or any other institution of higher education.
The term of employment as Postdoctoral Reserach Fellow at KI is fixed at KI to two + two years, subject to evaluation after the first two years.
Assessment grounds
In connection with the appointment of Postdoctoral Research Fellow, we will accord special weight to academic skills, particularly demonstrated excellens in research.
