ACCOUNTANT (2 POSITIONS)

ADAP (The Association for Development of Protected Areas) is a Swiss based Non Governmental Organisation whose main objective is to promote sustainable development of Protected Areas through community participation in the management of Natural Resources. The Association supports rural communities' initiatives to implement national policies that promote community-based conservation of natural resources.
ADAP is developing its project 'Community management of the natural resources" in the division of Inyonga, district of Mpanda and Namtumbo & Tunduru in Songea. The programme supports Community Based Organisations (eg Inyonga Beekeeping Association and Inyonga Ecotourism Association) and the communities in the villages of Inyonga Mpanda and in Namtumbo & Tunduru Districts (Songea)
The project aims at supporting a participative management of the natural resources while bringing support to the community members in order to help them to increase the quality as well as the quantity of their products, but also by helping them to reach new markets. The project also aims at establishing management plans on the Village lands in order to decrease the conflicts related to the use of lands, but also to improve their water shed management.
The main objective of ADAP's project is to support alternative income generation activity to benefit local communities so as to contribute to reduction of unsustainable use of natural resources (poaching, illegal timber cutting etc) in order to improve living conditions of the supported communities.

1.1 Duty Station: Inyonga & Namtumbo 1.2 Reports to: Project Coordinators
1.3 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Following ADAP's project financial and operational procedures manual the accountant will endorse the following duties and responsibilities:
1. To ensure the proper book-keeping of the Project expenditures according to the regulations-of the manual of financial procedures.
2. Routine activities such as preparing monthly payrOll, payment vouchers, debit and credit notes, petty cash vouchers; keeping custody of petty cash balance. petty payments atc are timely, properly and accurately done;
3. To guarantee the compliance with the Tanzanian financial management rules.
4. To carry out the recording and the classification of Projects expenditures. .
5. To co-sign with the coordinator all cheques and accounting records.
6. To control the accounting records subjected to the Project.
7. To manage the fixed assets and stocks including the vehicles, the motor bikes and the fuel management.
8. To develop the financial management tools.
9. To work out the bUdgets and financial reports.
10. To take part in the budget (quarterly and annual) development.
11. To follow the cash flow plan.
12. To prepare bank and petty cash reconciliations.
13. To prepare the audits.
14. To communicate with authorities (NSSF, TRA) and financial institutions (NMB) in order to ensure proper compliance with their requirements.
15. To support the COO when necessary for the capacity building on financial issues of the CBOs.
1.2. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
1. University Degree/Advanced Diploma majoring in accounting from a recognized higher learning Institution;
2. Good knowledge of Tanzanian accounting and reporting principles;
3. At least two years experience of working in a similar position (working with an international NGO will be an added advantage)
4. Experience of working in rural settings and ability to communicate with rural communities
5. Honesty, organisation, ability to work under pressure and necessary interpersonal skills to work in a multidisciplinary environment
6. Willingness to live in rural settings with limited infrastructure
7. Must be computer literate
